Wow! Just got an e-mail from Ebill (ebill.co.nz) about an outage this coming weekend (24 April 2005), and they sent the e-mail with the users' e-mail addresses in the TO: field!

Not very safe practice. Granted first time it happened. Very strange. Don't like the idea of lots of other users knowing which e-mail address I have used to register on eBill.

And the e-mail listed as contact is a non-existent mailbox that bounces messages.

Shocking. - Thats enough to turn a savvy user off a service. Have you been able to notify them yet?

Yes, that's correct... I've sent an e-mail to the contact on the website, but that was after hours. Let's see the response today.

The bad address on the original e-mail resolved to Datacom - I guess they're contractors to NZ Post, the owner of the eBill service.

They sent an e-mail the day after saying that a human error caused the problem - they have a procedure in place to prevent this to happen but apparently it wasn't followed. They apologised to everyone (BCC this time)...
