I'm pretty sure you have to get it to send an email to your operator... and then set up a notification rule in there to send a notifcation via sms.

Not free either.

To receive a SMS alert when new articles go live on Geekzone you will use the same MSN Alerts mechanism. Make sure you visit MSN Mobile (this is the US page, the mobile.msn.com page diverts to Xtra Mobile - argh!), sign in with your Passport account and then click in Change my service.

Enter Other for Wireless Service Provider and then enter the e-mail address for your mobile phone (something like [number]@sms.vodafone.net.nz for example). This e-mail address is assigned by your operator and might not be a free service (YMMV).

There's a setting for Quiet Time but make sure you use the same timezone as in your Passport account.

Once you've done this, go to the Geekzone MSN Alerts sign up page and click on Change Delivery Preferences. The options are Messenger, e-mail and My mobile device. This last option uses the SMS configuration entered on MSN Mobile - that's all: now you have SMS alerts when a new article is posted on Geekzone.

I tried using the email for telecom mobiles, 27XXXXXXX@sms.net.nz but it is only for sending texts to email, you cannot send emails back to it. They just bounce. Might just stick with messenger alerts :(
