Hi,

As an idea....

Could the email notifications from Geekzone (which alert you to a new PM) possibly include the content of the PM?

A bit like how facebook lets you know you have a message, but also includes what it is.

You would probably still have to log in to Geekzone to reply to the message, but that's fine.
What do others think?

Cheers.

It is a work in progress. Along with a list of other things we are looking at implementing.

oh....how about hover mouse over the forum posts on the homepage to read more about what the posts contain. I love that feature in other forums.

I thought about sending the message in the email... The problem here is that some anti spam software would easily think some of these messages are spam, and then flag our entire mail server as spam.

It's enough that people "forget" they subscribed to messages and click "Spam" in Google Mail, making the service "learn" that we are sending spam (when we are not).

I think I could live with that. If people spam their own messages then, well that's something they'll have to live with, every day of their lives.....

I think the link back to Geekzone in the message would be more of a spam threat than whatever someone had to say in the message. Foul language aside that is.

Although we do a good job, now and then some idiot registers on Geekzone and sends out spam - like lotteries, and other things. If this gets into the body of an email then it makes the whole domain look bad.

That's what I am talking about.

What about only including the content for users with over x posts and/or been a member for more than y amount of time?

Fair call, sorry if I seemed rude.

Agree with the comment about min number of postings too, perhaps that could assist?

And an advanced search, so for example I can search for freeview, but only under the for sale / wanted section...

yeah if the post conent was only emailed out when the poster has over say 20 posts surely that would mean no spam was sent out?

Good compromise there. I will look into it.
