How do you enable SSL in Windows Live Writer 2011?

You have to create a new blog connection and enter the new URL for the metaweblog API.

Roger that - I also found that things get screwed up when my server goes down and kills all my images, so I'll look for a way to resolve that.

Also, I guess you already know that Live space (and perhaps live writer?) are going away and being replaced by Word Press.  I got "migrated" over last night so I'll check out the Word Press stuff and let you know if I find anything interesting.

The way to resolve that is to use Windows Live Writer, adding images from your local PC to your blog post as you write. It will automatically upload to Geekzone, without you having to do anything.

You don't need to delete/recreate the blog - just use Update Blog Settings in WLW and make it HTTPS.

also - re the above, here's a note I got from live space (is this old news to everyone?)

----
We are now upgrading your Windows Live Spaces blog to WordPress.com and it will be ready to use soon. Though the process could take as long as a day, it usually happens faster than that. If you experience any issues with your upgrade, please check out our Windows Live Spaces Help Center for resources and contact information.

Your visitors using bookmarked Spaces links will be automatically redirected to WordPress.com. If you choose to connect with Messenger Connect, a link to your WordPress.com blog will also be added to your profile and your friends will be able to see and comment on your blog posts right from Messenger. You can manage services that you've connected to Windows Live on the Manage Connected Services page. We hope you'll enjoy this new experience.

Still have questions? Visit the Spaces Upgrade Center
Thanks for using Windows Live!

This is obviously off topic. But it's not news. They announced it a couple of months ago.

The SSL connection doesn't seem to work for me. This is the URL I'm using:
https://metaweblog.geekzone.co.nz

The error I WLW 2011 the comes up after putting in the new SSL URL is:
Can't connect to your blog service:
Network connection Error - Error attempting to connect to blog at:
https://metaweblog.geekzone.co.nz/
Found: Found
Please try fixing the problem and then try again.

Is this working for others?

I think the WLW doesn't understand default documents... Or redirects.

Can I ask why the metaweblog API is now on SSL? Surely non SSL is fine?

Sure, you can ask...

The Geekzone login has been on SSL for about a year now. Since I've installed a wildcard cert (in preparation for the Geekzone API use, which will be only on SSL) I decided to move the blog API to SSL, seeing it was the only way the account password was being passed in non-encrypted form.
