For some reason this post in the development forum did not appear in my rss reader:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=72&topicid=81862

Anyone else see it in rss?

(I'm using google reader)

The way we cache RSS and distribute it via the CDN adds a 15 minute delay to updates.

The post is in the feed for me.

Delay is long gone. I can see the post in the rss feed, but for some reason it is not appearing in Google Reader. Anyone else using Google Reader?

Remember Google Reader updates the feeds every hour or so... I use Google Reader (synchronised to FeedDemon) but not specific forum so won't know.

The item was posted yesterday, and I have received many updates to other forum feeds since that time.

Most recent update was "China used prisoners in lucrative internet gaming work (WoW gold farming)" in the gaming forum posted on 31-May-2011 10:20.

Ok, I don't use the 'latest posts' feed. I use the individual forum feeds.

It would be interesting to know if it appears in your Reader feed view when you subscribe and then view the Development forum rss:

I can see it in that RSS feed, using Safari.

Added to Google Reader, the link shows up there and on FeedDemon after sync...

I think I know what's going on...

The topic showed in the feed the first time it was created.... It then showed in your reader and you marked it as read.

When a reply is posted, the topic timestamp is updated and it will reflect this change in the feed. But Google Reader recognises this as a previous post, and one you have already marked as read, so it won't show it again.

I am flying out to attend a conference, but will check if there's a way to make RSS entries "unique" and perhaps add that. This should make the reader shows the entry when it's updated, even if it's an old topic already seen.

It's been a while since I've worked with RSS but I think there's a "guid" field that you can use as a unique ID. Of course, whether it's easy to integrate that with the forum software could be another matter entirely! :)

That's just a few minutes job. But I'm getting ready to fly out to Las Vegas for the HP conference, so won't look at this for another couple of days.

I've added a GUID to the forums RSS feeds. It may take an hour or so for all the caches to be flushed, but it's there now.

This means topics with new replies will appear as new in your feed reader from now on, even if you previously maked them as reader. This is because they are now a new item.

The GUID is based on a hash of topic, last author and timestamp. This will ensure it's consistent between multiple reads if nothing changed.

I think you may have broken the feeds doing this...all the links to posts the feeds Geekzone forums: latest posts (http://feeds.geekzone.co.nz/GeekzoneForumsLatestPosts) and Geekzone Technology Community ( http://feeds.geekzone.co.nz/geekzone) are 404'ing

Geekzone Blog: latest posts (http://feeds.geekzone.co.nz/GeekzoneBlogUsers) seems to be ok...

No idea about the others...
