Please note that we have changed our Forum Usage Guidelines (FUG) to define what kind of discussions will be allowed on Geekzone in relation to the new Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment law.

We have also reworded some other items, which should just clarify the application of the FUG.

We also introduced temporary suspensions, which can be used at a moderator's discretion instead of a permanent ban.

Everyone had the FUG Acceptance Flag reset and should agree with the new FUG before proceeding with posts on the site.

I agreed, but I didn't read it.

Hopefully I didn't just commit my firstborn child to you.

Actually, she is 16 now, and the way things are going, sending her to Wellington might be a good change.

I've read the updated FUG but I don't understand "You can not complain about notifications or terminations that were sent by ISPs according to the law"

Eh.

So you under the new law you can't complain about the new law if you are served a termination or notification.

It means just don't come here, to use the forum as a soapbox to complain about your ISP terminating your account, which they are required to do by law.

You can talk about receiving the notifications, you can post the notifications, but if your ISP cut your service, tough luck, don't come here saying "[xyz ISP] is the worst in the world because they cut my service". They have to. Deal with it.

We already have a soapbox policy anyway. We just don't need this. That's all.

Godwins Law used to be more of a mantra back in Usenet days (when it was still used for actually person to person messages).

I learned my manners on Usenet/Fidonet back in the day.

No they are not required to terminate your account.  That part of the law isn't in force yet.

Oh yes, but at some stage will be, so we don't have to change the FUG for that.

Thank you for the excellent explanation.

And only if ordered by the kangaroo court, it is only one of the options they have available to them, the one that really matters is the giant fine. Really termination isnt going to work since people can just get internet again, so I expect that it will not get used.

Could it be a mere coincidence?
