Well I just perused the Jobs advertisements 2 seconds ago which led me to post this idea over here for development.

Looking through several of the job offers I realized that I can do a-lot of the individual aspects pertaining to several of them but not all. So I was thinking .. perhaps have a Looking for work section?.. where-by we can advertise our services 'what we're good at' and potential employers can contact us based on our 'skill-set' / 'portfolios' perhaps.

anyway , just an idea like the other 20 or so that I have rattling around inside my skull

cheers.

unfortunately alot is not a word... yet.

It is a good idea, but I don't think potential employers actually go around trying to find employees, neither do their agents. Most likely agents post job openings and wait for people to come around... So I'm not sure a new forum for that would get many results.

The burden is still on you to find a good job. Head hunting is really only reserved to higher ups.

What it would do though, is give other forum members an opportunity to say "oh hey, i know where there is a job going like that" and make contact with the poster. It's not the be all and end all of job seeking, but it's another avenue to complement all the other methods.

Make contact with the recruiter anyway and have a discussion. If your skills are strong in key areas it may not be a problem.

As an employer I would check it out if I was looking for someone, beats paying a recruitment company.

What is the benefit of a recruitment company at all?

Whoops , Seem to have started a "Forest Fire" here lol.

Excellent feedback all the same. I feel that it has merit. As I for one, am more a..
"This is what I can do individual"

as of opposed to;

Here is my CV that I copied from someguy@the_interent.com to get a job that I could fulfill 30% of the Actual requirements there-of and BS my way through the other 70% just to keep it.

*Unfortunately even after 20 years in computing my typing speeds are less then 5k chars per/minute..
(3 fingers on 1 hand and 4 on the other + 2 thumbs.)
Albeit the classic Data-entry job requires 7-10k.. so that one's are out .. Thank God.

Will give the Agencies a bit of slack as they eliminate the above paragraph by Researching the industries in-depth (at least the one's I visited did) and utilizing practical tests to confirm the registrants claims etc.
and taking into consideration expensive overheads for a well placed office in the CBD with 4-5 frantic office employee's running around and manning the phones @ $22.00hr their prices I think would justify charging out a laborer for $26.50hr and paying him $12.50hr in the process.. As I remember when running a business I had to turn every dollar (spent) into at least $3 to break-even.. $1 for me , $1 for the Bills & of course $1 for a Bridge in Auckland that I will probably never traverse in this lifetime. :\ , ehem ... I meant TAX. :P

Wise man once said , "Turn your hobby into your job... and play all day".
Another man commented , "Find a job you enjoy doing and never work another day of your life!"
and another went by the 1/3rd , 1/3rd & 1/3rd Principle , which is to say 8hr's work , 8hr's play , 8hr's sleep.
and yet another used this same philosophy in finances , 33.33% is mine , 33.33% savings & 33.33% Bills.

I think our greatest asset that we all possess is TIME. Or rather the lack of it.

I am currently seeking new employ and from my recent exposure yes i would agree that most recruiters are wasting valuable air but there is a very small percentile of recruiters that are worth their weight in gold. They have the relationships and databases to shortlist sufficient candidates without even advertising the position

I recently had an interview with a recruitment agency.. One of my references, who happens to be the guy who told me to call them, also happens to be the guy that is doing second interviews.

Apparently it's corporate BS from one on NZ's biggest companies!

It's still not my dream job, so I dont care that much.

(I want my dream job..... ;D)
