i finally figured out today why my "quick reply" often 'disappears'.

i realised i have been inadvertently hitting the "Compose Reply" button instead of the "Post Quick Reply" button on occasion.  It feels natural to enter some text and then hit the green button to the right to submit a post (OK buttons are often on the right of dialogs)

perhaps this could be re-laid out so that the compose button group is above the quick reply panel?

its even more of a pain than just hitting the wrong button - as soon as you go back, your text disappears :\

I'm using Chrome and the test remains there ;)

Would it help if the "Post Quick Reply" button was immediately UNDER the box, moving the green tick lines to above the line as in the full reply)?

yes, i think that would probably help.

or if the other buttons were recoloured, or obviously outside of the quick reply 'box'.

do the other buttons even need to be in the quick reply box? they're available in several other places on the page including directly above the QR box..

The problem with removing the three buttons from that position is that some people can't even see then there, image if we remove them.

"How do I watch a topic?"
"How do I compose a reply with full editor?"

And so on. Seriously, I know of some people who have been here forever and still can't find the search link in the menu at the top.
