Also I cant seem to get into Gravatar anymore - site seems to be down - so I cant get hold of my old avatar.

Maybe a little bit of warning that this was going to happen?

The change is easy to explain: we are now hosting the avatars, instead of using an unreliable third-party: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/Geekzone/1463

You will still be able to log in and retrieve your old avatar when the site decides to go back up.

Mauricio explained on the Geekzone blog why they got pulled without warning. When the site stopped serving the avatars the forums pages were taking around 5 minutes to load.

This new way is much better! And you can also change your avatar instantly.
