Since Sunday night from 10.30pm there has been an issue with Vodafone not being able to text or reply to 027.

Origanally I thought the fualt was with telecom who to my surprise were very helpfull. after re seting which didnt fix the issue they looked into it further and I find out there is an issue with the Vodafone network.

On Thursday My friend contacted Vodafone customer services,
only to be told yes this is an issue but not a priority.
Yet there happy to charge the prepay customers and dont know when it will be fixed and was told there was nothing that could be done and wasnt even interested in taking details or finding out more
which means there paying for a service they cant use and haven’t been able to since Sunday.
Theres customer satisfaction as its best.

Is the problem with your messages being sent out of your phone? If so, instead of relying on a friend, have you called Vodafone yourself, to check if your account is ok and if this is really a known problem?

So far I didn't read anything that shows us there's a widespread problem. "Friend of a friend" is always how Urban Legends start.

Message sent from my vodafone prepay just now arrived on my telecom prepay within about 8 seconds, so I say no widespread problem.

I can also send TXT messages from my Vodafone 021 to my and friends Telecom 027 mobiles.

I would suggest you contact Vodafone customer services after trying your sim card in another handset as your information is not correct

Ok.. maybe for some reason i wasnt clear enough.....

im on 027 ( thats telecom there for we dont have sim cards )
ok now thats cleared Vodafone them selves have admited Yes theres a problem.
The friend can not reply or send txt messages to two different telecom mobiles. Yet others on 021 can to me. there for works in some cases. but to be told by customer services theres nothing we can do. im sorry thats not aceptable.

lonewolfnz: just because one CS rep supposedly said there's a known problem doesn't necessarily mean that it's valid in this case. it sounds more like a problem with your friends phone rather than your phone if other 021 people can txt you. has your friend tried the sim in another phone? can they text to other vodafone people?

If there's only problems communicating between your two numbers then maybe it's something to do with whitelists or blacklists preventing texts between your phones or something like that.

How very helpful. 027 is Telecom. Unless things have changed and Vodafone can issue new 027 numbers?

If told by a CSR thats theres a problem then the finger pointing is valid.

Until a number is ported, yes it is Telecom. No other operator can issue 027 numbers in NZ.

I think it's becoming clear that answers like this don't help the original poster, and drag the quality of the forums down.

Actually Brad given the context used "Vodafone not being able to text or reply to 027. " I would have to side with johnr there, you can't tell me that all 027 numbers are on the Telecom network.

Perhaps lonewolfnz's freind misunderstood what the CS rep told him/her, rather than a network problem, a handset problem.

One thing that is very frequent is someone asking for help without giving all the information available. For example asking for help on network configuration but not saying if using DSL or cable. Or if running Windows or Mac OS.

So, instead of half unhelpful replies, there should be a request for clarification. Saying "fingers are being pointed" doesn't help find the problem.

The best thing would be for johnr, being a Vodafone person, to actually try and help identify if this is really a problem or not, instead of giving half, unhelpful replies.

Get my point now?

In my own dealings with Vodafone these past few days it does seem they are having some technical trouble with some of their systems. I have been repeatedly cut off from their customer service line and the CSRs said yes, they are having trouble with that happening.

I also know that signing up to Vodafone Mail yesterday (Thu 19 April 2007) seemed not to be working properly, problems with their website (HTTP 500s and database troubles relating to selecting an e-mail address amongst other things). Again a CSR said yes they were having tech trouble here too.

Whether the CSR your friend spoke to was referring to these problems, and whether the cause of these problems also affects Vodafone to Telecom texting, I don't really know. (sorry if that makes this another unhelpful reply!)

I think what johnr is trying to say is New Zealand consumers can no longer reply on the 027 prefix meaning Telecom , and the same goes for 021 with Vodafone. It is going to take a lot of effort on the part of Telecom and Vodafone to educate consumers in this regard. All 027, or 021 now means for what matter (029 included) is that the customer was a native Telecom (027), Vodafone (021) or Telstra (029) customer.

The education can start here, and now.

As for the topic at hand, this does not seem to be a one off incidence, a few people I was speaking to, today where complaining of this issue, and are considering change to Telecom via Number Portability as a result.

Yes, I understand that. But my point is that half of this discussion here was spent on replies that actually did not help at all. Instead of a half reply, johnr could simply have posted "Are you using an 027 on Telecom or ported to Vodafone"? This clearly gets some more information that would help identifying the problem.

Also "my phone is working, therefore the entire Vodafone network is fine" is not always true.

Instead, we got a half reply that wasn't productive, didn't help the OP and caused noise in the discussion.

What I am trying to do here is not only educate the newbie with some problem, but also the old geek that should know better.

Now back on topic, thanks for letting us know that other people are seeing this problem. This will help VFNZ (if any is monitoring the discussion) keep moving their collective mind and try to find the problem.

What we need is to help them to find the source of their problem by pointing out that there's a problem. People are mostly not looking to play a blame game. Unfortunatelly it doesn't look like some see it this way - and some don't accept that a company does actually have technical problems.
