So, I have been getting frequent disconnections from the cable modem just dropping off, all the lights are still flashing but it requires a restart to get it going again. (or wait for it to reset itself).

This has been on and off for the last month and its getting on my wick, its connected directly to my computer at the moment, but ive tried 2 routers with it and it still results in disconnections, and after ringing telstra god knows how many times doing what every they tell me to do to fix it and having nothing ever work.

But I did have a break through last night! They said it MIGHT be caused from upgrades in my area. When I asked how long it would take he said that he had no idea, and for me to be patient. Which pissed me off, cause ive been patient for a month already!

Great huh? I pay all this fricken money just for me to get crap service.

The funny thing is my brother who just lives a few blocks away from me doesnt have these problems.

ooo, and just as i tried to post it, it dropped and had to reset the router. ^_^

sigh.

Welcome to Geekzone. Have you asked for a technician visit? I was having similar problems a few weeks ago and asked to have a technician come around. He tested the cable it self, the connections around the house and then determine the problem was the pole connection. He then asked for a TelstraClear team to come around and fix it.

This happened because that pole was replaced by Genesis a few months ago and probably the things (whatever they are) weren't well attached back. After the visit the drops stopped happening.

It could have been the house wiring, or a faulty modem, or anything really. So ask for a visit to be sure of what's happening.

Yep, I had a techy come around. He did all his testing, and found out that the modem connection was too higher frequency. He put a connection onto it which bought it back to the right range.

But despite that, it still didn't fix anything.

So you've obviously called back and told faults you're still having the problem, right?

Yep, thats when they told me to change my ip addresses (still happened) and that they might be doing upgrades in the area.

Also my brother is an admin who works just down the road from me, who has exactly the same plan and he said its going perfectly for him.

Sounds like a signal problem to me the tech that came around what sort of tests did he try I know for a fact that alot of them do not carry meters around and if they do they dont really know how to use them. It could be a local problem (your House) or it could be down your street. If there is any ingress of any kind into the cable that could affect your service do you have Cable Tv aswell do you have problems with that???. Did the tech replace the isolator which is in the Grey box on the side of your house. Those little buggers tend to play up and give all sorts of trouble. It sounds like the tech has put an attenuator on your outlet which doesnt really fix the problem at all. because it doesnt resolve what has happened. I feel for you man hope this gets sorted for you soon.

Well the techy came around today and replaced the modem with a sb5100 series modem, everything seemed to be going fine for a while, but my email and webpages would time out.

I was connected to a router wrt54gl with dd-wrt firmware. I hooked up the cable modem directly to my pc and it worked fine. Now I just have to wait and see if it continues to disconnect.

A techy did come around and measure all the signals around the home and went into the grey box outside, but didnt find anything wrong.

Ill try open-wrt on my router sometime. But hopefully it was just the cable modem causing the problems.

I'm having a similar problem too, I've got a tech showing up tomorrow to have a look see (2nd time), Despite telling them *several* times that the problem seems to occur more with wet weather the still seem reluctant to do anything about it.

I've heard Several times from various sources that the Karori segment of the cable ring is in a bad way and this seems to confirm it, but I'm not hopeful that anything is going to be done about it anytime soon.

Grrr.

Weird... If it was a signal problem however why would the telstraclear put an attentuator on (The device he would have plugged to the end of the cable) Hope it gets sorted.

I guess I'm having a similar issue out in Trentham. I'm getting patches where none of my computers can acceess the intranet, deapite being connected to the network. It's happening on a completely intermittent basis too. The odd thing is, I accessed the router setup, and it told me that it was connected to the internet.

BTW, does anyone know how to retrieve a forgotten password for a Belkin router... Embarassed

Well its been a few weeks, and I have to say that changing the modem to a sb5100 fixed it. I have yet to experience one disconnection. -yay-

So in the end, bug telstra till they come around and fix it properly. :)

is this the internet or digital tv? i have problem with the digital tv ever since i subscribe to tcl (early february). tv will go blue (i believe it is an auto restart?)-frequency at least 7/8 times a week. i have no idea and never make the initiative to contact anyone on tcl to fix this. does anyone know what the problem is???

my cable internet however is fine, in fact i have my speed beyond the limit that i shud have :P and never get disconnected after 10 hours of hosting online gaming (i dont spend much time at the tv, so i dont bother to report anything and whenever i use PPV, no disconnection had happen-if it happens during the PPV, i wuld have tang tcl on the spot lol). so, please enlighten me if anyone knows what the problem is with the digital tv and how to fix it.

thanks
