I am on the fancy red+ business plan
- Unlimited calling and txt to any nz/aussie phone for $129+gst
- 5gb data

2degrees now has a plan for $49 that offers the same unlimited calling and 2.5gb of data.

Does vodafone have any plans to match?
I barely use 1gb of data on my phone so I am seriously thinking about switching as its almost 1/3rd the price.

As advised many times staff can't speak about future plans / changes until official coms is released,

What is offered in the market today will be different in 1 , 3 , 6 months etc........

you are comparing a business plan (vodafone) to a personal plan (2d). the business version of the plan is 60+gst

the equivalent plan to what you currently have on 2d is $85+gst

you could always go to a lower plan on vodafone if you dont use all the data.

IMHO Vodafone has historically been terribly slow at responding to changes in the market and updating it's plans (and not just mobile), but they do get there in the end.

In my opinion, vodafone is slow at 'competing'.

2Degrees seems to be the company that set the benchmark in term of new plans etc.

I have requested vodafone to match the offer from 2Degrees. If no reply after 1 week, I am set to port to 2Degrees.

I reckon 2 Degrees are awesome. I'm on a plan that's $29 per month for unlimited sms, 2 gig data and 420 mins, inc 120 to Aus. It rolls over too; at the moment I have 5 gig data available and 1200 minutes.

I looked at Vodafone but their packages just weren't as good.

$129 seems soooo expensive. How many calls are you making per month? I'm assuming you must make hundreds of calls?

Remember to compare apples with apples here. The 2degrees plans are Open Term only with no subsidy.
If you want a $1000 handset its:
$49 + $41.66 = $90.66 per month for two years.

If you don't want a handset, then:
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobile-plans/sim-only/
Shows that
$39 gets you 1.5gb of data
$69 gets you 3.5gb of data.

So not the $49 2.5gb, but not too dissimilar in value for money.
Granted there are other pros/cons for each (eg 2degrees has carry over data) but the equiv vodafone plans aren't that bad value.

Well .. I'm on the Red+ Essentials at $69

Unlimited Talk / Txt , 3.5GB data (1.5GB originally with 2GB bonus data which will end in 12 month)

for the same price at 2D

I'll get Unlimited Talk / Txt with 5GB data with carry over

I'm also seriously planning to jump ship ...

Wow what plan is that? I'm guessing it's a grandfathered plan? 2gigs of data for $29 is great! Especially if it has rollover as well!

It must be a grandfathered plan.

I called 777 to ask what the remainder of my contract is (pretty sure it ended last september) but it said there was a 15 minute wait to speak to someone.
Hung up and tried going to sales - waited 10 minutes and had to leave for an appointment.

I think I should just change based on those wait times.

I used to have a 2D connection with carry-over data ("holiday connection" with carry over data to supplement my BAU data) and these plans look ok. I ended up porting it out because despite having a lot of data - the performance in Central Hawkes Bay was so poor (compared to other operators), I couldn't use the carry over data I wanted even though I was trying hard.

Interestingly - service was fine in Auckland and the tron.

Service aside, the plans look like a step in the right direction.

Ive moved my plan from spark to 2degrees prepaid because it is better value and I was getting annoyed at the constant facebook reminders about using data that I couldnt disable.

I will move it to spark or vodafone on a contract next time I am going to go travelling to get roaming. Hope VF have something to compete by then.

I just saw the blog and thought I'd pipe up on here as well. If someone from VF can offer me that same plan I will jump from 2D straight away

I have a similar deal to the $49 2D deal, with VF.

I am on a $29.00 plan that gives me 150 min talk time (I use around 10 a month), unlimited txt and 500MB data.
I have a free add-on of 1GB and an additional $20 add-on of 1GB

Total $49 per month for 2.5GB, 150min, unlimited txt, 4G and $5 roaming.

I'm fairly happy with that - would just be better if it rolled the data as well.
