Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Are you tesing over WiFi or LAN and where are you testing to? Some HFC (Cable) nodes are getting congestion at peak time and work is now in progress upgrading these Nodes

Speed tests over wifi are meaningless, as your cable connection is almost certainly faster than your wifi connection.

I'm on VF cable 100/10Mbps in Island Bay, and right now I'm getting 100/10 (testing over Ethernet, VF Wellington server).

If you can answer PeterReader's questions people on here will be able to help you. And you need to do testing over ethernet (not wifi).

Not as accurate but slightly better test peak 8pm and off-peak early hours of the morning and see the difference

As mentioned in the other thread some Cable (HFC) nodes have got peak time congestion and this is getting worked on now but it's not an overnight fix as physical hardware needs to be upgraded

but they were getting the speed a few weeks ago so its not likely to be a wifi issue, especially if they are using 5ghz

it will have the HFC congestion issue thats been going on for months and months.

lets wait for the results and I hope the op has restarted modem already

its just funny now days people are so quick to jump on the fact the test was over wifi, when more and more poeple have better wifi gear that is capiable of handling 100+mbps speed with ease.

Unless something drastic has changed in the OP's environment in the last few weeks its highly unlikely to make any difference testing over ethernet, it will be down to the HFC connection its self.

while it is fair to ask people to test over ethernet, but you have to think logically and realise it it has been fine before then its not very likely that its going to be the issue and it will be something else.

Maybe someone new has moved in next door and transmitting / testing a time travel machine that operates in the 5Ghz band causing WiFi interference

(I know it's a long shot but you never know these days)
