hey guys,

i just went online and switched from VF to bigpipe.

i also have sky through VF but want to cancel internet and sky,

do i need to call VF and cancel or should i leave that to bigpipe?

Yes if you are switching from copper I believe Vodafone usually require 30 days notice.

If you don't have any landline numbers you want to keep then I would go for it.

As I understand the UFB network operators have yet to develop a "churn" process.

In theory chorus handles it.

However you should never ever rely on them to do this.

Step 1). Switch over to new ISP
Step 2) contact previous ISP to confirm you have switched and you want to cease relationship with them.

Get a confirmation in writing from previous ISP (an email) in case they screw it up.

BigPipe will take care of the switch. Normally you wouldn't need to contact your old ISP however it is normally best to.

It is ALWAYS best to, don't rely on 3 parties all successfully completing their tasks (new ISP, chorus, old ISP).
The downside risk of not doing it is just too high.

Good point. I've only ever done it once (am quite loyal if I get good service).

Personally I'd wait until swap over to big pipe before contacting Vodafone so you don't end up with a period of no service.

If you're on Chorus, Chorus has a churn process and will send a LSP notification to Vodafone on the day you are switched to Bigpipe. But it's always a good idea to tell Vodafone. You can tell them after you have received the RFS date from Bigpipe.

If you're on Enable, there's no churn process. You need to tell Vodafone yourself to disconnect after Bigpipe is connected.

All the changeover nightmares I read on GZ start with "So I contacted my existing provider to cancel..." If you don't want any hassles absolutely DO NOT contact the existing provider until your new service is up and running.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Many years of experience here saying never rely on Chorus to process a Churn order.
Too many times i have seen them missed. Vodafone are usually quite good at processing them and i only ever had a handful of times it wasnt the case but more factors came into play there.

Always call your "Losing service provider" and let them know your changing.
Can cover your butt when you get a phone call because your 3 months overdue.

You should be fine to tell your old ISP once your new ISP has booked your connection with Chorus. The Chorus system can only handle one order on a line at once, so we can take advantage of this. As the new ISP has booked a transition, your old ISP can't book a disconnection for you on the same line.

When changing ISP's
1. Do not contact your existing provider
2. Order your churn / new service with new provider
3. Wait for all services successfully installed and working with new provider
4. Wait until the next day or two
5. Then and only then, contact old provider and ensure all appropriate services with them have been terminated
6. Pay up - i.e. any part month or if you had a minimum 30 days notice etc. Yes you may end up paying for some overlap with old provider
