I'm on the 100/20 fibre plan which came with a HG659 modem.

Just wondering what other VF customers on the same plan are getting in terms of raw speed on their VF fibre plan. I know there are a lot of other variables involved which affects your download speed(VF network load, download server bandwidth, time of day etc...) but even so, I was expecting more in terms of raw speed. At the moment I'm consistently maxing out at ~5MB(~40megabits) over the last 3 weeks. The vary rare occasion a download might hit 6mb/s & once even hit 7MB/s but only for a brief period of the download and this applies to both wireless & wired devices. So I'm getting roughly 45%-55% of the advertised speed & I was definitely expecting more, maybe a consistent 60-70% range.

The screen shot is from my 1st week of fibre but it's consistent over the last 3wks.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

you have reset your modem and router
your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap
your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

Your ISP and plan
Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)
Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)
Your general location (or street)
If you are rural or urban
If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin
If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service
If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I assume you're on at least 100Mbps ethernet, not Wifi? Those results suggest there's some kind of an artificial 50Mbps limit being put in place. Have you called Vodafone to ask about that?

Do you mean your download speed is around 7MB/sec (megabytes) or 7mbps (less than one megabyte per second)? Often latency or server load can restrict this, which is why speed tests are more useful. Try downloading a well seeded Ubuntu 16.04 torrent to really find out what your line can do.

On 100Mbps 2 degrees UFB I can get close to maxing out the 100Mbps with an Ubuntu torrent, and for downloading Avira antivirus last night I got around 50Mbps download. That's likely from a local CDN or cache. Individual downloads, no idea, they're fast enough.

Also, you're unlikely to get 70Mbps downloads from overseas servers. The TCP protocol is latency sensitive. It could take 3-6 connections to hit that throughput. According to this calculator (second result down) you should expect at most 2.5MBps on a connection with 200ms latency, which is 20Mbps per connection. This calculator suggests with a 100Mbps connection and 200ms latency you can expect 56Mbps. Drop the ping to 160ms and it rises to up to 75Mbps. That's quite a difference, but it does show that there's a protocol based limit in there somewhere.

Megabytes, not megabits.

Tested over WiFi & Ether, using wired PC, Phone & Tablet & results remain the same. Aprox 4.5MB-5.5MB per second. I was expecting a bit more when downloading, But the consistent download speed had me wondering if VF had a limit in place or if this is the norm for VF customers on the same plan...before wading through VF call centre service.

I'm on the same plan with Vodafone, and get slightly over the advertised speed - about 101/21. This is testing to local servers on speedtest.net. Your upload speed looks about right, but as said above, it looks as though something is limiting your download.

I can only reach that speed on my laptop- my phone can only handle about 50 or so. Because you've tested with a range of devices (wired and wireless) with similar result, and are using the Vodafone-supplied modem, you may have just been set up at the wrong speed. But - I don't think Vodafone actually offers a 50Mb plan on fibre - and it wouldn't have a 20Mb upload on that plan.

The only things I could suggest at your end would be to revert any settings you've changed in the router, and try different Ethernet cables between ONT / router / laptop. If you can, I would also test on a couple of different laptops or PCs.

Had Vodafone fibre for a week, same plan. Getting 102/21 Mbps, via Ethernet, on a regular basis except for one hour this morning when it went to 84/20. Interesting Wi-Fi with iPad Mini getting 95/20 and iPhone 5s getting 75-80/ 20. As a matter of interest, the Chorus install was magic with everyone punctual, expert, and informative with no mess and no wires in sight.

Thanks for the VF speed feedback. I'll call VF and see what's going on, definitely seems like there's a limit in place on my fibre.
