I cant access outlook.com using web access via my Vodafone broadband account (it was Worldxchange).

 

I get this error: outlook.com's server DNS address could not be found

 

Its been doing this for about 5 days now? Randomly it works, but only for a few minutes, and very very rarely.

 

I am on Mint Linux 17.3

 

I have tried Firefox, chrome and the latest Opera. I get the same error via my nexus android phone, BUT access does work via the phone's email app.

 

So that makes me think is a web thing, altho its only related to Vodafone, as I have had my kids access the site using other ISPs.

 

I just logged into my works VPN, and all of a sudden I could access the outlook.com site !

 

What does this mean?

 

Who do I hassle vodafone or hotmail?

I wouldnt know. I certainly havent changed any DNS settings on my computer. I don't know where to go to even start?

 

Happy for any advice tho.

I can't access imore.com....submitted ticket last week but nothing yet...

 

Suspect VF's usually crappy DNS issues again.

Interesting. I just tried that on (imore.com) and it came thru alright.
Crap.

I can access both sites fine on VodafoneNZ

Have you both done a DNS flush if using Windows PCs and what about trace route and what does that show ?

I have flushed DNS and cant do a tracert as all it come back with is "unable to resolve"

 

 

 

Maybe its a VF cable issue?

I will find out from my work mates how to dns flush and tracert on cli in Linux tomoz.

If you just restart it should be enough for a DNS flush on your machine. You have not changed DNS on your router (to use a streaming service or similar)?

 

@Pumpedd if the account was WorldxChange before then it's not cable.

I don't use a streaming service, if u mean something like Netflix or neon? I have a raspberry pi that I watch YouTube and vimeo B on is about all. I tried to look at the router set up but none of the usual ip addresses pulled up anything strangely. Its VDSL. Running VoIP on an Audiocodes router.

I rang vodafone yesterday. They promised to look in the evening.
By 7pm I had access to hotmail/outlook again ! Wahoo!

 

Unfortunately, this morning, with a 7am press release embargo due, my work VPN was no longer working.....
Will try again tonight to see if it was a one-off.

My situation was fixed by Vodafone techs telling me to use Google DNS permanently.

 

 

 

If you want to try them they are

 

8.8.4.4

 

8.8.8.8

Thanks for that Pumpedd You do that at the PC level rather than the router eh? I was going to do that as a last resort. There is also a thing called OpenDNS (I think) that I was looking at.

You should not use external DNS. It impacts negatively in performance for things like YouTube and other services that use some CDN.

The Vodafone call Centre is really getting worse.
