I have had a 1gig Fibre connection for about a month now but I am finding my download speeds seem really slow.

Speed Test shows 850 down 400 up but when I try and download, say Halo Wars 2 from the MS Store it really goes above 4mb/s and on the Xbox it never goes above 20mb/s.

My question is what sort of speeds do you get? I know there can be lots of things that can cause slow downloads, but before getting Fibre I had ADSL and my downloads would max out around 10-12mb/s. I was hoping for better speeds.

I have my laptop and xbox connected directly to the Vodafone modem using new CAT6 cables.

Thanks.

I understand that and are expecting 1Gb/s.

I am expecting faster speeds than my old ADSL connection.

I have talked to the helpdesk and they are telling me that there is no wrong with my connection.

I have checked with a friend who is on VDSL and he normally gets download speeds around 50mb/s on his Xbox, so I am really confused.

I'd suspect your friend is on another provider?

completely normal to have different routing performance. Some RSP's are great for performance to say; SG while having not so flash to say EU.

While others will be the total flip.

There are several threads around with poor download speeds from certain sources with the Ultra Hub.

Have a read through that last one in particular.

Vodafone's page for the new firmware is here, that's also worth checking on.

Just FYI I have a mate who had this issue, we never really got to the bottom of it but with an EdgeRouter he was able to easily get over 60MB/sec downloading from Steam, where before with the Ultra Hub it was never over 10.

It also just occurred to me that you may be getting bits and bytes confused? You mention getting 12MB/sec on ADSL, that's not possible, so I assume it would be 12Mbps.

Just to make sure we're on the same page.. 8 bits in a byte. 1MB/sec = 8Mbps

10MB/sec = 80Mbps

60MB/sec = 480Mbps

Sorry for the tread hijack but I just got the Ultra Hub a few weeks ago. Haven't had any problems with it but is there some way to tell whether it's on the latest firmware? If it's not then should I download and install this manually or would it happen automatically?

Have a look there - that should give you enough to go on. I've not got one here or I'd give you better instructions. I think the firmware is supposed to roll out automatically, but doesn't always?
