So I have just used the new updated version of the my Vodafone App and in check my data usage there is now only a bar indicating how much data I have left, they have removed the second grey bar around the circle which used to represent how many days were left until the plan renewed.

The old version with the two bars was great as you could see how you were tracking for the month in terms of if you were using to much data or if you had not used much at all and could afford to splash out a little. What is everyone elses thoughts on this?

Ugh, I see what you mean. That was a really good way of showing progress through the month, I'll sure miss that feature.

I am a bit of a geekzone amateur, is there anyway we could tag a Vodafone official in this and get a response?

I think the "Official Vodafone guy" stepped down and its just staffers on here who "help out" on their own personal terms.
I also miss that bar but I think that it was removed due to commercial interests wanting people to spend more without knowing as easily and a tidy up of the app. Thats my guess.

Anyhow, They will generally chime in if they can supply some form of input but by no means is this any form of official channel and any help must be met with gratitude otherwise they will quickly go back to reading geekzone in their personal time and not helping! Chances are 2-3 VF staff have already read this but most likely have no valid input to help your case :).

Cheers

I am quite humbled to see @JasonParis is a part of the community. Really cool to see the boys normally in "the ivory towers" touching base with the consumers and prosumers!

Glad to see ya here mate!

Android thing, Like where the bank has a balance on a widget rather than opening the app.

Appreciate the feedback. We made the change to simplify the experience and did test it with a number of customers and while we can't keep everybody happy, we are confident the new design provides a better experience overall.

I see this a lot with apps (and software in general), where in an effort to simplify things features get removed or down-graded.

Rather than choosing one way or another, why not make it an option? Default to the simpler method but have an option in the settings to turn on the more complicated feature for those that want to use it?

This is probably the compelling reason; "simplyfing the experience" is just an after effect.

Options is a good idea, I'll pass that on. It's always tricky with such a wide range of users - service type and comfort with tech - the circles were good for that time, I know I designed them but then the variety of services evolved so the app needs to match that.

yell I hope this icon expresses my opinion of your confidence that it is a better design.

The ergonomics got worse for the most basic functions of the app. Rather than improving efficiency the app is a definite downgrade for the most commonly performed tasks like viewing balances.

  • The old app displayed almost everything we needed on the main screen with no additional actions required. We could see remaining data, minutes and text From memory, I could also see days remaining until renewal. Now I have to perform at least two actions just to find my current balances for minutes and TXTs. If you have more than one phone registered then checking the balances requires that you select each service, and cycle through the balances.
  • The old had my phone as the primary service. In the migration to the new version, a secondary service swapped over to become the first service on the list which is now named the primary service. (Writing this post motivated me to finally get that fixed.)
  • When you view another service, it becomes the default service. The primary service used to be the default, it always appeared first in the list each time the app started. Now it shows whichever service was last viewed. Maybe you have survey results showing more people wanted it the new way but I doubt that would be the case.

Be very careful if you are relying on the graphical usage meter to determine your usage. Mine often gets 'stuck' and therefore understates usage.

The 'view detailed usage' feature is more reliable.
