Hi

We have forwarded our voice messages to email. My wife uses XP and IE  - and receives sound. I use Linux and Firefox and receive no sound.  I am no tsure what the difference is?

It's nothing to do with Firefox because I use it myself with XP, and have no problems opening the voice message attachments.

Rather, the problem is most likely to do with whatever program you are using to play .WAV files.  This is the format used for the recorded messages so if your media player equivalent program cannot open the files, you won't hear any sound.

Under XP, the default .WAV file handler is Windows Media Player.  Not sure what it is under Linux, but this is almost certainly where the problem lies.  Either that, or you have an issue with your sound card drivers.

I tis not a matter of being able to play the attachment - I don't even get it. Same at work running Vista and IE.

Hmmm, it sounds as though your Anti-Virus or Firewall is blocking the attachment.  Weird...

The message passes through the same firewall on our ADSL router to both PCs. My personal firewall is not set ot block incoming attachments and I have no antivirus since I am running Linux - you are right - it does sound strange!

You have selected the option:
"E-mail a carbon copy of the message to"

rather than:
"Notify me by e-mail of the new message at this address"

in the web-portal??

It looks like you have your "Notify me by e-mail of the new message at this address" -  setup to deliver to one email address & your "E-mail a carbon copy of the message to" - setup to deliver to a different email address.  Are you checking both addresses?

Login to your myvfx portal, click messaging, click voice management - then check those addresses.

You should actually receive a notify email & a voicemail email for one message left.  If people call you and don't leave a message you'll only get the call notify email (they might not be leaving a message).

Would be interested to know how you get on.

According the the settings I am getting the "main" message and my wife is gettting the carbon copy. Her computer is on the table next to mine and I see the same message where she has a sound recording and I don't. Strange.

If you reverse your settings, your wife will get the notification, and you will get the sound file, if that is what you want???

The following is only to clarify the differences between voice mail messages and call notify messages:

Voice mail comes from voicemail@wxnz.net and call notification come from callnotify@wxnz.net.  If you see both messages coming from the voice mail e-mail address but one has the attachment and the other not, then there is either a setting on your PC or your account setting that is wrong (or a VFX bug, but not very likely).

The titles of the messages are also different.  The titles are "voice message attached xxx" and "call notify xxx" (where xxx is the number that called).  All e-mails with the title "voice message attached" should have the voice message attached.

I don't blame myself for being confused - a "carbon" copy would normally mean just that - i.e. if one got the sound file the other would too.

It is more important that my wife gets the sound since she is running a business - but it would be good for both to get it.

It is a carbon copy of the message in the voicemail system:
i.e. you can dial in to voimail and listen to the message. The email is a cc of this.
