Went in to Vodafone store today to cancel my iphone plan to be told

1) they cannot cancel an iphone plan in the store
2) apple will take my phone off me if I try
3) Telecom CEO has been contacted by apple and threatened to remove all iphones from telecom ... (or else!)
4) Every iphone on Telecom is going to be [sic] wiped and blocked from telecom network.

Now,

I have been on an iphone plan for about a year now and have just been too tempted by having 3g everywhere (dammit I am sick of 2g dropdown, but I digress) and the telecom credits (and that prepay is better value than my vodafone plan). When I joined vodafone I was cautious (2 year contract) and read all the terms and conditions and all that. My understanding, is that I own the phone outright, and they cannot take it off me. Secondly, I can run it on whatever network I want, I did not enter into an agreement to use my phone on any network, I entered into an agreement for a simcard, with some minutes, with some data. As allowed for in that agreement I will cancel it (at a cost of some $200 or something, which I completely accept).

My gripe is the Vodafone store workers behaving completely unethically and as it seems to me, trying to bully or scare me into staying with vodafone. I would clear this up but I apparently cannot cancel without ringing a customer services number they gave me that I cannot ring on a sunday.

I would really appreciate your views on this?

Cheers

Name and shame...

What a load of... unethical stuff for a store to say.

WOW!!! If that's what was said then it defies belief! Maybe sxz is one of many iPhone users defecting to Telecom and Vodafone are starting to feel the pinch. Once my 3GS arrives and my 3G is repaired I will also be on that boat to take up Telecom's iPhone offer.

I totally agree with MF - name and shame!

Put it out in the public domain for the benefit of consumers.

Hi there,

I too would very much like to know the name of the store and indeed the fine ... fellow who told you all this. It's quite untrue and I'm sorry you got such poor service.

I'd very much like to have a brief discussion with channel support about this and your input would be gratefully received. Feel free to PM me if needs be.

Cheers

Paul (the deeply unimpressed)

Thanks for contacting me sxz, however I can't reply as you have disabled personal messages in your profile,

I'll let the appropriate people know about this thread so they are aware of the complete nonsense you have been told.. the only corret point is the first - you will need to deactivate via our call center. However please don't do this if you wish to take your phone number with you, as you will need to fill out a port request at a Telecom store instead

(Ah i see paul has shown up with the same thoughts i had...)

Ha, no I didn't get that in writing, I was really just pretty supprised and not in the mood for an argument so I just left. I was pretty sure they were wrong anyway...

Not really comfortable doing the name and shame thing, have passed the details on to Paul and cranz.

Hopefully there wont be people out there now who get told the same thing and dont know any better!

Cheers for all the repies everyone

Same sort of thing happened to me when the a nice fellow at the VFNZ store (George Street/Meridian, Dunedin) told me I couldn't get data if I used the phone on prepaid. I explained that you could and he eventually changed his stance to "you had to tinker with some settings".

Obviously not of the same magnitude, but quite a funny attempt at getting me on a plan.

The Dunedin Vodafone stores are very confusing. Two of them (Meridian, and George Street shopfront *attached* to Meridian) are First Mobile (but not branded as anything but "Vodafone" externally), while the new Wall Street complex store (branded exactly the same externally as the previous two stores) is I believe "the real deal".

It is very confusing and I don't understand why the stores are set up in this fashion.

Well I just spoke to customer services about cancelling, they were very pleasent to deal with (as were paul and cranz) - I almost feel bad about canceling - but alas I must go for the best deal for me. If vodafone wanted to woo me with amazing deals though... they know where to find me!

Don't feel bad as you were lucky to get it, Vodafone have made their own bed and now ironically they are being trounced by Telecom on customer service. They seem to rely on the fact that they'll keep the unwashed masses who wont demand as much as the kind of people as we get on here. But they forget that the people on here are the ones who influence so many others in their IT spending.

After 13 years on contract and 6 months of Vodafone created mistakes and horrible customer service I was offered $100 discount to sign a new contract as way of apology. I guess they see me as a $60 a month user, not the $5k/month of business my previous clients and family pump into them (and they will soon start loosing). Not that it should matter, everyone should receive good customer service, and its a sad day when Telecom is where you go to get it.

Little bit off topic, but i love how 2D has 24/7 customer support.

I remember back in the good old days when Vodafone had 24/7 customer support AND their staff were Kiwis!

Oh... why did you change Vodafone? What did I do wrong? :(
