Not sure if this is the right place for this but saw this link on stuff.co.nz this morning

Basically they are going to resell Vodafone's Service like TelstraClear presently does.

Nobody has heard of Tex Edwards or Econet...... Other than the writers at stuff who love him.

At least Orcon will have a good crack at doing this and will make a good go of it.

Meanwhile Tex has spent millions and has nothing and a brand only a couple of people who have heard of it. Thats a fantastic return.

You've got to leave Tex alone, hes too busy offering to help to install Vodafones new billing system for 20% of the cost! :P

Good on Orcon for doing this, hopefully they won't turn into another Econet.

Now that the Orcon announcement has occured does anybody have any firm details on what sort of service they will be providing? Will they become a full MVNO or simply become a reseller in much the same way TelstraClear have become?

All i care about is what the prefix will be..... 024? or maybe they cud be sneaky and take 025 once telecom drops their 025 network :)

OR go for something really different such as 072!! now there is an idea!!

It will prolly be 023, considering all prefix usually have 2 gaps between them, eg 025, 027, 029

They won't take 025 because thats not closing down till the end of 2007, Orcon are expecting to have their 'network' going sometime in 2007.

I would expect 022, 023 or 028.

I got the impression that they would be an MVNO, but that was just the way i took the release on the Orcon site.

Orcon only joined the number deed around 6 weeks ago and looking at their latest number range updates there are currently no entries for Orcon for either PSTN or mobile ranges.

I would probably put money on them using the 028 range, this is currently allocated to multiple carriers incl CallPlus & Econet.

With number portability being introduced next year, this is probably largely irrelevant anyway.

With N.P. can a carrier connect a number on any of the available prefixes as a new connection (you can with 0800 and 0508)

The Dominion Post article this morning says they will use the 020 range, but as pointed out by Alasta number portabilitywill be in place by then anyway so I doubt we'll see too many 020 numbers.

What is interesting is that it's now the Get plans are no longer available on Vodafone it's now impossible to get a "Personal" plan on Vodafone that doesn't involve signing a term contract (with the exception of Motormouth which is unsuitable for many customers). Other sellers are going to seriously struggle to get customers while they're stuck in a Vodafone contract. I've been a Vodafone/BellSouth customer for over 10 years now and would like a You Choose plan but absolutely refuse to sign a term contract - I'm not going to change to Telecom because I like prefer the advantages of GSM but customers like myself are potentially going to be driven away from Vodafone to these other MVNO's because of Vodafone's braindead attempt at customer retention which is achieving the opposite result that they expect to happen...

And if anybody from Vodafone does still want my business then contact me and give me a You Choose plan without a contract, it would certainly make me happy after all the hassle I had earlier on in the year with WAP overcharging that johnr had to solve because nobody else in the company cared.
