One NZ have a list of compatible devices on this page

So all Pixel phones won't work? I got sent an email from One saying my phone is incompatible and gave me instructions to check. I checked and every parameter they noted is already enabled as they expected. 🤷‍♂️

They only list phones they sell/test.

If all parameters are set, then you should test - see my screenshots above.

Not all

It's been documented that the 6 and up got volte and vowifi and NR(5G) last year in this very forum.

However if your phone is not on the list you need to check yourself. Even if it works it may not be carrier certified and weird things can still happen.

I am just hoping that our regulators don't turn around and do dumb crap like the AU ones have with these lists that the telcos have and making them block other stuff, since the lists are very inadequate, and I still don't get why its required to have a voice service on a device to sell it data.

Post 2G/3G shutdown, VoLTE will be required for 111 calls and texts to work so I can understand why regulators want to ensure all mobile phone consumers have VoLTE. We may well have to adopt a similar approach here to ensure people don't hang on to older phones and then complain they couldn't call/text 111 in an emergency.

Anyone with Zenfone 9 Android 14 been able to get VoLTE? I tried the "*#*#3642623344#*#*" and turned on VoLTE in the internet settings but no go. I rang one and confirmed my sim has VoLTE turned on. I need a compact phone and am thinking of going pixel pro 9.

Why is volte needed for a device used for data only?

What makes the telco, who has an incentive to only authorise devices they sold inorder to sell more replacement devices the correct one to make the decision about what devices they will allow to connect to get a data service connection.

Requiring working volte under the lame excuse that someone might want to use it to make an emergency call is kinda shot down when you can get a home internet connection with no voice service at all and cant use it to call anyone on it on the legacy phone network.

At best I would accept that they make any device without volte have to be subscribed to a data only plan on the sim card in it.

All those Chinese LTE tablets are now useless in Australia. Data entry barcode scanners kicked off because not sourced thru a telco. Its a cluster.

The Vodafone 890N says 4G LTE on the back, I assumed it will just continue to work since its 3G that is getting shutoff. I think many people with old phones are in for a shock come switch off time.

Perhaps ONE needs to add more info to the shutdown page.

Such as some checks people can do?

How old is it? it most likely only uses 4G LTE for data and not voice calls

It's an Oppo A77. It's on the One NZ list for "VoLTE/VoLTE roaming".

That's the biggest issue in Australia, the telcos are using it as an opportunity to drop phones that they didn't sell themselves. There are reports of the same exact phone models purchased through competitors being cut off under the guise of 'not being able to confirm they will work'.
