quickymart:

Some interesting comments in here

I enjoyed this one:

The network is going to be around for a while yet (if I were a betting man it'd say at least another decade before any widespread decommissioning goes on).

That aged well 😀

Nothing showing on their site but I note that the cable stuff has now been removed:

Was there any timeframe given as to when this is all happening?

IMO Comcom should step in and make gigabit the minimum fibre speed in these former HFC areas owing to the increased competition to UFB fibre that HFC provided.

I find the 500/100 connection esp when Working from home ample, I wouldn’t complain however if they gave us a bit more upload speed :)

Just unleash GPON like ADSL... was a whole lot of mucking around deciding between 2mbps or 3.5mbps down and 256 kbps or 512 kbps up.

Ah yes. Take it you don't run an ISP.

But this is off-topic anyway. Don't be silly.

On the basis of good customer relations, one hopes any deal would NOT be a price increase for less service?

Official for me they sent me a email yesterday saying the HFC  network is closing down and a offer to go with fibre here in stokes valley.

what's the offer?

Free install & activation, minimum $85/month charge?

$200 credit if I go on a 12 month contract on the everyday plan 500/100.

I also wonder if 'someone' will subsequently remove the cable from pole-to-house?

Likewise the cable clipped to the house, but assume that'll be left to the home owner.

I hope so.

The network where I am is aerial and the the feed cable to our place is hooked to the cable network itself instead of the pole.

I did find this on Optus’s website on how they were handling the decommissioning of their HFC network: https://www.optus.com.au/support/answer/optus_hfc_aerial_cable_removal_9429

Yeah, that's OZ, still wonder about here, and how delicate contractors might be with a few metres of co-ax on side of house.
