Just discovered this today on the VF website: Unlimited broadband data and home phone plus NEON

Cable Offer Summary – 12 February 2015

Unlimited data, Ultra Fast Broadband with home phone (Cable)
12 months membership to NEON, 6 months give away and 6 months half price ($10)

This is a significantly cheaper offer than the one briefly advertised on 03 February.

I am thinking it's hard to find a more incompetent company than Vodafone.

Just received my bill. Not only the price increased by $4 this month, the discount it mentioned in the email to me last month is not there.

Just received my bill. Not only the price increased by $4 this month, the discount it mentioned in the email to me last month is not there.

Same happened to me...spent over an hour on phone to get it sorted.....I was on contract.
They even sent a letter apologizing which is kind of a waste considering how much extra they charge for paper invoices. At least you get 130/10..I'm still getting around 50/10 on a good night.

Its a bit odd really.

I would have thought VF would be pushing cable hard as they would be able to obtain more revenue from it, than say a DSL or Fibre connection.
DOCSIS is realistically a better technology than DSL and can still compete with fiber.

Wouldn’t have thought scaring people away to cheaper VDSL / Fiber alternatives with other providers, is a very smart move..

Vodafone are wanting to focus on their higher revenue and margin mobile business and seem happy to let the fixed services (inc cable) decline.
They have a belief that mobile provides superior connectivity than fixed and as they charge high prices for low mobile data caps, this translates into big $$ for their bottom line.

Ive been saying this for a long time, data is their new cash cow! That and txt messages which they (and all the others in NZ) exploit through their termination rates. Then they take this one step further (as Freitsam pointed out last week) and block international SMS tools under the guise of preventing SPAM

Hmm that is probably not a good strategy.

Never put all the eggs in one basket.
Not to mention that free WIFI is often available in many public places, work offices and home.

What I think a better approach would be...
1) Better RBI plans to entice more rural users and small towns to switch (Chorus has left them in the dust mostly with congested ASAMs and Conklins).
2) Lower fixed line prices (especially for Cable).
- Subsidize revenue by offering bundled phone services, higher speed increments, IPTV and maybe gaming routing options (like myrepublic).

3) Use mobile to subsidize fixed line services.
- Include open / fixed term low cost plans to entice pre-pay users to bundle and include in one bill.

Ultimately it is a win-win for consumer and provider to bundle services (Home phone / Internet / Mobile).

Other providers have already mentioned many times that there is marginal profits in selling just fixed line broadband.
If VF is the odd one out (with a higher cost) then they won't be able to sell their service.

In turn this is going to hinder their ability to sell services that ride on top of the fixed line service.
