I woke up at around 11:50am and called xnet .I was answered within 3 seconds.I was quite surprised actually.The guy was very helpful

One question

After the Naked Dsl is activated thru xnet and there is a problem with the line.Do i have to fork out $100 if there were something wrong with the line?

Do the router login details stay the same, ie username@adsl.xnet.co.nz ?

Or do they change to something else?

Everything will stay the same, the routher log in (ISP Log in) nothing changes, the only thing that will change is the X pair at the exchange.
These X pair (Excahnge Pair) wires will be removed, and all wires X/C pair (Exchange pair/Customer Pair) will all be put into the one peice of hardware (DLSAM) therefor removing the phone ccomponant from the exchange and giving you NDSL.

ninjabear the ONLY time you should pay for an ICF (Incorrect call out fee) is if telecom check for a fault and find the fault to be CPE (Customer Personal Equiptment) meaning anything within your propertys boundry that telecom isn't responsible for.
If Telecom DO find a fault on their side (Exchange, copper line, sub exchange ect) then they should fix it and NOT charge an ICF.

I called a few hours ago to get set up, spoke to Sarah who took my name and number. Still waiting for someone to call back at this stage, I guess they must be busy.

Does anyone know how to distinguish between urban and rural with regards to the pricing? I live in Gore, there is only one exchange as far as I know which covers the whole town, population of about 8-10K. Interesting to find out if we are considered urban or not?

I live about 5 km from the exchange and my address is a rural delivery address but as I said if it is all covered from the one exchange I would assume all customers connected would be treated the same?

If I have to pay rural pricing I may not bother.......

yeah I did the same thing and have been waiting 4 hours so far for someone to call me back so yeah they must be busy considering they start selling xfusion as of today so they told me when I first called them.

Well, I've signed up for the customerlink thing with Telecom, and apparantly Telecom have done something wrong, and I'm waiting for WxC to call me back. The ADSL and vfx still work, but the landline is dead.

This would be correct AFAIK.  Until your old Telecom number is ported, it will work like this:

- INCOMING calls to old Telecom Number ==> Customer Link ==> VFX number

- OUTGOING calls ==> Originated directly by VFX number

Your landline will never again function as a phone line.  Instead, it is just the conduit for your broadband connection.

Telecom in NZ is just weird and trying to make as much money as they psooibly can before everyone disconnects their phone service.
In aussie if you already have VoIP and you are porting your landline number, you keep you VoIP number untill your landline number can be ported which happens seamlesly.
In aussie one minute your using your VoIP number and next minute your using your old landline number thats how seamless it is over there with the odd hick up here and there when telstra lose the number somewhere along the way

Remember NZ follows everything Aussie does, we can't lead our selves except when it comes to Telecom losing money.

Telecom isn't making anyone do anything, try reading the thread again. Xnet in conjunction with Telecom Wholesale are recommending this as a work around AFAIK. There are provisioning problems, as mentioned by Xnet staff, nothing sinister about Telco's making extra money.

Also, it has nothing to-do with porting numbers, it has to-do with the provisioning of the nDSL service (Wholesaled by Xnet).

Exactly what I thought it would be and tried a few times before it went live, but did not work.

Note that it looks fine on FireFox, but when I had to go to work this afternoon for an emergency Yell I saw it did not work on my PC on IE7.  The thing at the bottom of the screen was over the text instead of below it.  Anyone else picked this up?
