Ditto. I'm pretty sure everyone who signed up for iPhone notifications from Vodafone would have already read that page.

amanzi: News has started rolling in from around the globe about the contract plans that various operators will be offering - including one from O2 which includes a free iPhone, but still nothing from Vodafone NZ... sigh... I don't understand why Vodafone aren't riding the hype and giving us more details? Even their website only just shows the single text link to the iPhone press release - nothing else. I rang customer service to ask for more info and was just told that they haven't finalised the contract plans yet - it almost sounds like this whole iPhone thing caught them by surprise...

I've seen a quote this morning from Paul Brislen (on Stuff maybe?) saying that they're waiting on some pricing details from Apple so it may not be their fault.

I'd say its more a marketing thing than web content, the web team can't update info that they don't have.

Interesting that only O2 and AT&T have updated their info (probably because they have so many iPhone users going can i upgrade?!) but none of the other countries have from the first wave.. perhaps Apple has silenced them for awhile?

yeah i have filled in that form. it says you will be able to get one on a on account plan. im on a you choose plan, is that counted as a on account plan or is that different as in a you choose plan? does that make sence? any way i cant wait!

You Choose is an On Account plan, but they might make you move to a different plan to get a subsidised iPhone.

It is surprising to think that Vodafone wouldnt have worked out pricing months ago, you cant tell me that they were completely oblivious to the announcement that apple made..
Steve Job's highlighted that all deals with all mobile carriers were signed sealed and delivered, hence why vodafone would have known about the announcement months in advance...??? come on Vodafone....

I wonder if Vodafone will impose their 'Vodafone Live' shenanigans on iPhone 3G users? (surely not) ... the whole idea being able to access the 'real' web.

Well i havn't seen one country who is getting their first taste of iphone, release price info (please link me if there is, there was one for Optus Aus quoting $700 back in May :O! but guess that's out the window now). So not really one to start red-bashing...

Apple said the 3G iPhone will be rolling out in some 70 countries over the coming few months, with 22 nations getting it on 11 July. Jobs promised that wherever you buy the 8GB model, you won't pay more than the equivalent of $199 (£101/€127)

This is really exciting, a 3g iPHONE finally in NZ, Vodafone will have a field day with it and really hurt Telecom in the interim with iy.

I think i might buy one even though i am a Telecom customer, get on VNZ prepaid or some thing. Looking forward though to November when i will be better off on TNZ's network with 850Mhz coverage with EDGE and WCDMA in the major cities.

If Telecom are smart they will launch with the Iphone if not exclusive to Voda and promote the better data network and rural coverage etc etc on this current model, a 900mhz UMTS model will be 1-2 years are away so until then Telecom will be a better bet i think.

"During the announcement of the new iPhone 3G at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday Steve Jobs touted affordability as one of the main improvements over the previous iPhone, citing that 56% of people considering purchasing the original iPhone said it was too expensive.

When Jobs announced the new version of the iPhone would sell for $199 USD he asserted "At just $199 we think the iPhone 3G is going to be affordable for just about everyone"

Not quite.

As more details have emerged about the terms of that price and the available iPhone service plans, it's clear Jobs claim was somewhat deceptive. While the price of the new iPhone 3G is $200 cheaper up front than a previous 8GB iPhone, that doesn't figure in the cost of a service plan required to use it. Unlike the previous iPhone, the $199 price is entirely dependent on signing a 2yr service agreement with AT&T. In other words, like most new phones, the price is subsidized.

Because of the move to the faster 3G network the monthly data plan required to use an iPhone actually increased $10 over the older EDGE data plan. The monthly plans for an iPhone 3G now start at $69.99/month ($30-data, $39.99-voice). Additionally the 200 text messages a month that use to be part of the EDGE data plan are now gone. Add those back in, and you'll need to tack on another $5 to your monthly bill or $20 for unlimited texting.

Total cost of ownership for the old 8GB iPhone: $399 (phone) + $1439 (2yr plan @ 59.99/month) = $1838.76

Total cost of ownership for the new 8GB iPhone 3G: $199 (phone) + $1679.76 (2yr plan @ 69.99/month) = $ 1878.76

More affordable? Actually it will cost you an extra $40 over the life of the two year required contract, or $160 more if you plan on doing any text messaging.

I'm not necessarily saying $40 more over a two year period isn't worth it for the added features and faster service you get with the iPhone 3G, though it is an incredible amount of money to spend on wireless service when you look at the total cost. But their marketing ploy calling the iPhone "half the price" and Jobs directly stating its more affordable now for the 56% of consumers who said it wasn't before is false and misleading. Anyone who couldn't afford the previous iPhone will be even worse off buying an iPhone 3G.

I'm only describing the current USA/AT&T situation. Customers in the UK and elsewhere in the world may actually come out ahead with the new phone pricing. In the UK for instance, the old 8GB iPhone cost 269 pounds, while the iPhone 3G will now be just 99."

So unless Telecom offer the iPhone themselves, the only way you'll be able to use a Voda one on Telecom is to sign into a contract and then buy your way out of it.
