Just noticed the other phone "AGM A1Q" supports wifi calling, does that make any difference as to support modes?
jlittle:freitasm:
Look at the top bar and see if (Vol LTE) is shown:
On a call to 0800 000 000, on the mobile network I get
when connected to wifi
When I do this it shows 5G, not 4G and when I'm on wi-fi it doesn't show any network type. Am I OK?
gobtob:
Anyone with Zenfone 9 Android 14 been able to get VoLTE? I tried the "*#*#3642623344#*#*" and turned on VoLTE in the internet settings but no go. I rang one and confirmed my sim has VoLTE turned on. I need a compact phone and am thinking of going pixel pro 9.
VoLTE Worked out of the box with my Spark SIM on my Zenfone 9, Shows up in the status bar with a little VoLTE icon on android 14.

I think mine will be okay, it gets a 5G signal where it can and also has the VoLTE1 indicator as well.
Is there a list of phone models being collated that have stopped working in Aus? I'd be especially interested in what models have the limitation of placing emergency calls over 3G only despite being able to place normal calls over VoLTE.

Its the making the emergency call over a network that is not your network that is the big deal for them over there. Apparently you can also use phones with no sim cards to make emergency calls there too which is why so many people hung on to their dinosaur phones.
Linux: @jlittle when you place a voice call does the handset pass down to the 3G network or stay on 4G?
A word of warning - this isn't always a reliable test. Some phones support VoLTE (on 4G) but cannot handle VoLTE for emergency calling and require 3G for this. This isn't always immediately clear and I'm not going to advise you to dial 111 just to test it.
