Moffmo:

I was in a charity shop the other day and spotted an vodafone old cisco cable modem (I hope).

I'm hoping I will be able to set my static IP and it'll magically work, letting me use my own router.

It won't work.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup.

Someone from Vodafone will have to add its MAC address to your connection

Got an extra 14mbps increase downstairs by turning off the Technicolor wireless and using an old Spark Huawei router as an AP (which sits right next to the technicolor) . It'll do!

Good stuff. sounds like these units need to be demoted just to media converter state. Shame they have to do dhcp though but there you go - when I had vdsl for a short time and used an hg659, I found I had to reset it every week just to flush it and keep it running well. Thank goodness the Apple kit held up, but it's getting long in the tooth now

Not sure what it is - but my modem is dropping internet connection repeatedly... although when you switch it off and turn it back on it works for a little while. I thought initially was wifi router (AC3200 D link) but even my wired iMac doesn't connect to internet. Modem still has 'internet' light on though. I am on STFH.84.01. Any tips? I am in Wellington.

Not sure if this has been posted or if this changed recently.  Just had my cable upgraded to fibreX and ended up with a Technicolor TC4400VDF modem/bridge paired with a Vodafone branded Huawei HG659 WiFi access unit.
