You Choose + 1GB Mobile Broadband plan = $69.90 for 1GB (even though it only has 20 minutes, which I don't care)

Pretty good, but the outright costs for this are still high (as you need the buy the iPhone too...)

Does it do anything the Okta Touch can't?

I don't think the Touch has wireless so that's one, it's not really an MP3 player either so that's 2 things - what else?

I have similar number on both VFNZ and Telecom and would like to have both but not at those prices TBH.

Hahahaha that pricing is mental.

I had a family member bring me a 2G iPhone back from the US during their travels.

8Gig model cost me around $470 NZ, and I sim unlocked it to run on Vodafones network. My plan is $40 per month.

Sure, I don't have internet access when I'm away from my work/home/friends wifi spots, but it's hardly the end of the world, and not worth spending $6000 or whatever on.

It's a great great great phone, but it's just not worth that kind of cash.

but if you're only an ocassional user, then you could buy it on pre-pay.

Sorry, nope. No prepay options. Must be on a plan.

Thanks. Vodafone website still down for me, unfortunately.

I guess I'll be sticking with my corporate talkZone and upgrade my data plan from 15Mb to 200Mb. And buy the phone outright.

Can I get Add-Ons on iPhone 3G plans?

Answer

BestMates and Traveller will be available on the iPhone plans from 11 July 2008.

The remaining Vodafone On Account Add-Ons will be available at a later date – keep an eye on the website to see when other Add-Ons are available on iPhone.

You just don't get it - it's more than a phone, the idea is to revolutionise how people USE phones. Puts the mobile internet in your pocket with proper GPS and great maps, *easily* installable apps, and greate UI. All that stuff has been half-heartedly available before but was slow and difficult to use. The iPhone can change all that, as any gadget guy should know. But Vodafone's plans are putting that out of most people's reach.

What are the $979 and $1129 iPhone-only, no-plan options for? I'm confused. Can you not just buy an iPhone at that price and chuck in a pre-pay SIM?

They're for people who are already on On Account etc. plans. So, no prepay.

there is also a chance VFNZ sub-IMSI locked the phone so it does not work with the pre-pay SIM. oh yes they can do that! (530-001-00 only)

if thats the case no pre-pay SIM will work in the iPhone!

I own an iphone and yes, it's just a phone. The iphone is only ever going to be as good as the content created for it. Without the "killer app" it's just another phone albeit with a pretty interface and some far easier interaction. With all these pricing problems it makes more sense now for people to keep their current phones and just buy an iPod Touch with 2.0 firmware. The only difference is the phone/gps. Hell, we're not even getting visual voicemail here so who really cares.

Like I said yesterday to those who got excited about the $199 entry fee - it means VF are going to gang rape us with their plans.

These plans should be renamed:

The Clint Rickards 250MB plan

The Brad Shipton 500MB plan

The English Rugby Team 1GB plan

Its Marketing 101 people - dripfeed info to get people emotionally committed to buying it, then release high prices and lock in those who are early adopters or too emotionally immature to do the math.

In 3-6 mths release a lower cost plan/handset to lock in those who showed early restraint.

In 12 mths when Telecom get this VF will release another plan 1mth or so before stating "We've listened to our customers and lowered the cost even further....".

Yeah right.

Vodafone you SUCK!!
