Very limited news coverage. why is this issue not being blown up like the XT problems?

Perhaps because the XT outages caused a complete loss of service to all customers on affected RNCs? Where as this is affecting only some 3G data users at some times

Have to agree, if this was XT the media would be all over it.

If you'll pardon the obvious pun, you're hardly comparing apples with apples.  It's certainly a frustrating problem, and annoying that it took Vodafone so long to acknowledge (publicly) that they've got a faulty network, but at the end of the day the larger part of their network still works.  In the case of XT, that was patently not the case.  Ref: http://www.nbr.co.nz/article/massive-outage-reveals-xt-s-achilles-heel-11642

Perhaps Vodafone can be thankful for XT's lengthy periods of fail, so that now we can look at the current 3G data stall / SMS failures / no incoming calls fault as a 'relatively minor' issue.

All that aside, I've just gotten off the phone with someone at Vodafone, who sounds like he is spending a fair chunk of his day today phoning people that have been experiencing this issue, letting them know that their INC number has been attached to the master ticket for this case, and that we'll be getting an update once Vodafone's engineers have figured out/tinkered with/fixed the fault.

If you're having the problem, but haven't yet got an INC logged, then its probably worth doing, but only if you want updates sooner than whoever next gets the call from Vodafone bothers to getting around to posting on GZ.

mecow: Finally some acknowledgement! After being told for weeks it was my phone but not wanting to send it away to apple to get 'fixed'

Its a great reason to jailbreak tho - with SBS Settings you can turn 3G off then on again from any screen which solves the issue for at least an hour or 2

Over the last few months I can probably count about four or five different vodafone techs basically telling me that HTC is crap and that is why it isn't working. I have been screwed around so much by the company.

Fair enough. Although things that are continuously semi-broken are often more frustrating than things that are completely broken for a short period I am sure you will agree.

I haven't seen any updates on here or the Vodafone forums regarding the issue but i did see this

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-10/vodafone-traces-n-z-network-smartphone-problem-dominion-says.html

apparently they have found the issue and it should be resolved next week, still no details on what the issue actually is.

I suspect we won't hear much from Vodafone around here, now that Paul Brislen is gone to TUANZ...

But to Quote,

Update: 10/11/2010 @ 1700

We have now identified the intermittent fault with some smartphone handsets, which causes your data session to stall or not be able to send or receive text messages.

If you experience this issue, please turn your phone OFF and then back ON to resume service.

We have also identified a fix and are looking to have this rolled out as soon as possible.

I registered to receive updates on that thread in the Vodafone Forum, maybe because you edited the post rather than a new one i never got an update message from the forum.

maybe you can add that to the 'to fix' basket.

cheers

rob

I live in Auckland CBD and having this issue. Was on XT but switched to Vodafone for "bestmate."

I thought it was my phone that was causing this issue,  however my 2nd phone (sony ericcson) was doing the same.

I have an iphone 3GS and text's are intermittently not sending, they stall and then get an error saying "message send failure." Most of my calls are going to voicemail also. I am also getting 3 of the same text's being sent to me (2nd or 3rd one will come an hour later) and It is not just from a particular sender.

To fix it for the time being, I am rebooting my phone constantly, and it works for couple of mins, then fails again.

When I look on the phone, it is showing 3-4 Network bars, and 3G is highlighted.

I haven't reported this via Vodafone support helpdesk because :

1. Last time I called, I had to walk the CSR through on how to go on their own website (for number portability)

2. One CSR hung up on me, and advised they will call me back once they have more information. They didn't call me back. So I had to pay another $1 to contact again. (am on prepay)

3. No notes we're made from the last CSR - The CSR who picked up the call this time did apologise, which im grateful for.

I know it's $1 but it is also a waste of my time and money to go through it all again.

Vodafone team, when will you guys fix this?

Hi xturtlex

The $1 fee was dropped a while back for prepay customers calling 777

I will post very soon with what is happening (give me 30 minutes)

Thanks John

A software patch for the 3G cell network has been tested successfully and will be deployed in the live network over the next few days

Thanks John
