VodafoneDylan:

G'morning

We have some node cutovers planned for today. Details on affected nodes/areas that will most definitely receive a short interruption to service are listed on Vodafone Community here http://community.vodafone.co.nz/t5/Network-status/Cable-broadband-upgrades-in-Wellington-region/m-p/197165#M1038

No, not Island Bay specifically at the moment, but I understand this may help as other stuff is shuffled around.

Cheers

Dylan

So when Island Bay? We have really suffered now for a long time

Kodiack:

Did the scheduled work go okay? ...

Yes - but only one of the Avalon nodes was able to be completed, they ran into some technical issues and have had to reschedule the remainder.

Hi guys, does anyone have any experience with VDSL in porirua - ascot park?

I've been reading, some have issues with cable etc in wellington, was wondering if the same would be true with VDSL, UFB isn't available for me.

I ask is that truenet's graphs say that vodofone's vdsl international d/l speeds are the best performers from the bunch, was hoping this was true for wellington based customers.

Island Bay cable 100/10 measured via ethernet at 9pm:

One of our slowest nights this year, with speeds deteriorating daily.

It's still really bad here too. Speed test result is below a quarter of advertised speed.

Yesterday, I did get an email sent off to the rep at Vodafone that generously helped us last time around. Shame that it's been nearly two months since the Island Bay-specific fixes were supposed to be finished up. Every month is another month that makes me regret not switching to VDSL, it seems like. :\

The network status page still shows that the cable network upgrades for Wellington are planned:

https://www.vodafone.co.nz/help/network-status/

Funnily enough, following the bit.ly link returns a "Message Not Found" page on Vodafone's forums. Informative.

Kodiack:<snip>  Every month is another month that makes me regret not switching to VDSL, it seems like. :\ <snip>

I tried VDSL in Island Bay last year (with the full master filter install) - it was far worse than cable because of line length.

So cable is the only show in town until 2020.

I would guess that would depend where you are in Island Bay, it covers a reasonably big area.

Kodiack - serious question, have you look at VDSL (since you mention it)?

Is anyone else experiencing internet problems right now? I think it's international stuff that's having issues...

Yeah, I presume it is earthquake related.

Island Bay, cable 100/10 Mbps, 6.30pm

After a truly dreadful week of cable congestion we're now having our best speeds for a very long time - at 6;30pm: high 90's to Wellington, Auckland, & Sydney, high 80s to Melbourne.

But what will we get in rush hour?
