A quick question: I'm helping some friends (not at all technically savvy) get into streaming. They've just signed up with Amuri, our local WISP, and they're getting a solid 50 down/20 up service. Should be fine for all their needs (we have the same service, and stream away happily on all devices, including an Apple TV), but their elderly smart TV doesn't stream Netflix nicely. I'm thinking a VTV would be the best solution for them because it has a more conventional remote than the Apple and is $100 cheaper. However, all the web stuff I've read (at Vodafone/HNorman etc)says you need "unlimited fibre" for a VTV, although I believe it's ISP agnostic. Can anyone help?

If you opt for the VTV I think that 50/20 is perfectly acceptable, probably for a couple of Netflix streams, it doesn't need "fibre" to function.

I’ve tried it on 3G/4G before, works like a charm so definitely will work on a wisp ;) Just make sure it is unlimited.

Why’s that? I don’t think an episode of The Crown a night is going to use up their data cap... 😂

Hey @sansom is VF tracking the number of hard power cycles/reboots with this box?

Since the latest update, I seem to be power cycling at least once per week. Is it normal or should I log a fault?

Was almost flawless before I got put on version 5.

Thanks!

It’s more that the VTV box sources all its content via the internet, not just streaming stuff in the sense that Netflix is. So if they watch an FTA or Sky channel via VTV (or leave it running with one on) this is consuming data.

what antoknee said, and make sure if they only use it for netflix etc, that they turn the vtv off when they don’t need it, it uses about 2gb an hour running fta channels

Ah, I see. Thanks for that. I will need to instill discipline, or go the Apple route...

Cheers

I just got a new Vodafone TV today.

Is there a way to update the Apps, or do you just have to wait for it to update itself? I was looking to get the new Neon App, as the existing Neon App says it needs to be updated before it will work?

Have you checked for software updates under settings? The Apps will update automatically when new updates are pushed out

The software is up to date. I guess that means the new Neon isn’t available on vtv yet?

@sansom Can you confirm what is happening about the App update?
