Ah right, I read that while on mobile and meant to reply, but I completely forgot!

I looked into VDSL, but it's simultaneously more expensive and would provide slower service. The upload speed on our connection is healthy enough, and that's quite important. VDSL could theoretically provide superiour peak-hour speeds, although it would be slower the rest of the time, and would still potentially be quite poor without solid line quality.

It's not a viable option. Vodafone cable is the best that we can get in Island Bay, especially for the price. As much as I complain about Vodafone, they're still the best option 90% of the time. >_>

It is a bit more expensive, yes, but I never experienced any slowdowns and found it to be quite reliable (certainly no problems like on cable currently). I was getting 61 down and 10 up when I had it, although YMMV.

My mileage did vary.

Last year I got 12/4 Mbps (off-peak) on VDSL in Island Bay with a master filter and all the trimmings (line length 900m).

Reliability was irrelevant.

So I'm stuck with cable.
