sansom: ...(very big snip)... The only reason we can offer any cloud recordings at all is because this setup simulates the user experience of having a local hard disk recording process (which is allowed due to the famous "Betamax" copyright case in the USA), and even then some studios don't allow it on certain programmes.
Just had a look at a view of this case. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Corp._of_America_v._Universal_City_Studios,_Inc.
Mind boggles regarding where we would be if this case had been won by the studios. Even as things are, if we can't find a show we want on VTV, our teenager is offering to find a copy to download.
Is there a simple answer, @sansom, as to why rights owners are so restrictive (IMHO) over allowing 'recording' of streamed content on VTV when the same content can be recorded locally on a range of devices if received via broadcast? In our case, their behaviour encourages use to save content on the T-Box, which could be available until the box dies, or on MythTV where it is an MP4 that we can keep forever. I'd have thought they would see the writing on the wall and want to make it easier for us to be able to retrospectively watch something with the controls available on VTV.
