MadEngineer:
Requested porting with Orcon yesterday. Orcon have the request on file but no response from Vodafone
Classic.
I want out already!
Yes I'm aware of the irony that Orcon's mobile is provided by Vodafone.
I thought Slingshot/Orcon Mobile was provided by Spark?

Mobile users now have more options as state-owned telco Orcon enters the market.
Orcon is the latest player to offer its own mobile service by buying wholesale access from a mobile operator. The move comes more than three years after it first announced its ambitions.
Piggy-backing on Vodafone's network, Orcon today launches four post-paid plans with per-minute pricing starting at 69c, dropping to 38c for bigger-spending customers.
^ did that change?

Looks like it has, from this link: https://www.slingshot.co.nz/mobile/slingshot-mobile
Slingshot Mobile is provided via the Spark network. You can bring your own number too (so long as it's a NZ mobile of course!)
How to do support correctly:
Customer calls. Generate ticket. Email customer with summary, your name, ticket number, further instructions, directions for further help again. Cheers Orcon :p
How Vodafone does support:
Customer calls. Tell them they've called the wrong department and that they need to transfer. Transfer to wrong department. Transfer to another department. Promise phone call back or a fix after 24-48 hours. Don't phone back and no fix. No ticket number/reference or email.
I’ve just given up as well customer for a long time now, contract is up next week. I rang the retention team offered worse deal than What a new customer would get and wouldn’t match Geek zones orcon deal. There is a new deal of 300 credit which they wouldn’t offer to existing yet a week ago the 200 credit was for new and existing customers taking up the offer. The retention team was terrible non nz based didn’t care I wanted to close the account hard to understand and kept on pushing 2 year contracts even though I told him at least 3 times was only after 1year. See ya Vodafone if you want to retain customers you really need a nz based crew that understands the needs of customers.

Vodafone probly lost the desire to retain customers... I have a sneaky feeling they're trying to find a buyer.
They just got bought though, didn't they?

With respect I do find it very hard to believe that vodafone is for sale. It was only recently bought by infratel and another canadian company.

Orcon hasn't been state owned since 2014
Orcon is a Subsidiary of Vocus
and orcon tried to enter the mobile market back in 2009 with vodafone
I haven't read the whole thread, I don't really need to. Just wanted to add that my parents have also had terrible service, specifically around accounts/billing. I've tried pretty hard to get it sorted and last time I talked to one of the new customer service people here and I had high hopes, but it didn't work out. I've told them they should cut their losses and move on (originally ihug) but they're old and stuck in their ways. It's all pretty sad really. :(

Infratil (NZ) and Brookfield Asset Management (Canada) since July 2019.
MadEngineer: Just an update to the above, when I put my new Orcon sim in my phone it came up as skinny - so that should make it obvious who their carrier is.
Skinny is a subsidiary of Spark so therefore you are using the spark mobile network.
MadEngineer: Exactly. Curiously my wife’s phone displays “Orcon”.
@MadEngineer That is picked up off the SIM card after network registration
