why would they when the Telecom plans have much bigger, permanent, data allowances already?

e.g. $40 plan gets you 500MB on XT, $60 gets you 1GB, $100 gets you 2GB.

same price points on Voda gets you only 250MB, 250MB, and 500MB respectively.

Everyone have different needs of course. The new vodafone plans will be pleasing to some.

I disagree slightly with your analysis.

The vodafone $45 monthly plan gets you....

100 minutes
2500 sms
1gb data (permanent)
Free voicemail (zzzzz....)

The nearest telecom $40 plan gives you...

50 minutes
300 sms
500 mb data

So, in my opinion this vodafone plan is significantly better value than telecoms offering.

nope. 1GB is only for the first 6 months AND even then only if you sign a contract. if you want just monthly then you don't get it, or if you take a 12 or 24 month contract then you have to live out the rest of your contract (6 or 18 months) with only 250MB of data.

for sure, those who want lots of minutes and only 250MB of data will prefer the voda plan, but then for smartphones data is the most important feature.

It is clearly stated that the 1gb data allowance applies to the one month plan....

I think the revised terms are a good step by VF, but it's definitely a shame that the base data is still the same. Was the same problem I had with the old smart plans. At least on these plans I have no issue signing up as if only for a month i'm not locked in long term. Also, setting a time frame on the bonus data is welcomed, so you know exactly when it will disappear.

Fair enough (but still only for 6 months), I was going by an earlier poster who seemed to think it only applied to contracts. Seems a bit odd to give the bonus data for 6 months with no contract. Can you ‘resign’ at the end of 6 months and get the 6 months of bonus data to start again?

I wonder you keep renewing/rolling over a 1 month smart phone contract whether the 1Gb bonus data just keeps continuing indefinitley (so long as the bonus offer applies) or whether VF treat it as 1 contract and will cancel the 1Gb bonus data after 6 renewals. Surely it is 6 separate contracts rather than 1?

I wonder if this is the way to keep getting the bonus data and costing only $5 extra per month ($45 per month) vs locking in for 12 months for the $40 plan?

at the moment, i think 2degrees Pay Monthly plan is better since it came with 1 year bonus of 1GB national data

Maybe VF will just roll the +1gb deal on "indefinitely" as per the original 3gb offer lol

VF appear to be very reactive in their offerings but it is not necessarily a bad thing, as a VF customer I don't need to change providers to realise the value offered by 2 Degrees as an example.

A one month contract is still a contract. I presume vodafone will rollover the contract each month until the subscriber notifies otherwise.

Each months renewal constitutes a new contract, ie, the 6 month 1gb limit can never apply to a contract with a one month duration.

I would happily change to the new smart plans, I am not a huge mobile data user so the 250MB data in the plan should suit me fine, not to mention the 1GB bonus.

Still deciding between the $45 or the $65 plan and whether to go on open term or 12 months contract.

If the 1GB bonus data is also confirmed available on open term, that may sway me to go open term.

Only 210mins carry over and your 100 bonus minutes are used last so unless you talk less than 210 minutes nothing rolls over

i think you will find the contract itself doesn't renew on a monthly basis, it is jsut an ongoing contract but with a 30 day no cost pull out clause

You are right Oxnsox. I wandered over to Vodafone Downtown and picked up the latest mailer. It has the 1 GB addon for smart plans listed at $20.00

Don't think that is quite how it works.
Historically when you've signed for any VF contract the terms of that contract simply continue once the contract expires. Technically it's not a renewal as there is no longer a term attached.

So yes I guess if you selected the 1month option then you'd get the 1gig for the next 6mths, or until you sign (or re-sign) into some other contract.

Each month would not constitute a new contract unless you were to re-sign each time.
