O really Stuff? AFAIK 1800MHz transmitters are GSM/GPRS not UMTS/HSDPA!

This will be interesting. I'm guessing some people will be upset to find their "3G" iphone doesn't do 3G if they are not in the good coverage areas. Not sure what the issue is... I visit the in-laws property and don't get 3G... That's not an issue with my current HSDPA handset, just the early stages in network rollout. Everywhere in major cities and suburbs I am getting 3G. When I am not in a coverage area, the phone and modem capability still works, just at a slower speed.

Telstra is talking about taking Optus to task over their similar 3G iphone promises:

Unless Optus is claiming it can be 3G 'everywhere' sounds a little like sour grapes from Telstra (which is common in their rivalry).

I think Optus is saying "our 3G will be almost everywhere (via a combination of 2100 and 900 MHz)", and "the Iphone will be compatible with our 3G network".

The two statements don't entirely line up, nor are they entirely misrepresenting anything. Just being ambiguous.

very good point.. and the statement from Telstra is asserting that a large number of customers will be accessing 3G on the 900MHz network and will be unable to use all features:

'Telstra is concerned that Optus may represent to customers that they can enjoy a range of 3G features and services [that] will not be available if the 3G device is incompatible with Optus' 3G 900MHz network'

Just changing the subject a little, does anyone know if DSE are authorised VFNZ dealers and will be able to sell this? I got a birthday approaching (handy timing!) and I don't think I've heard of VFNZ vouchers before.

Gift cards are available from any Vodafone Retail store and you can load anywhere from $30 - $500 on to the card. It can then be used to purchase just about anything sold by Vodafone including phones & accessories the exception being pre-pay or on-account airtime.

Vodafone launches $1 a day mobile broadband

Vodafone has blown apart the mobile data market with the launch of its new
casual rate of $1 a day.

From July 28, customers will be able to surf the net, download music and
games and play on their favourite sites without committing to a fixed
monthly data contract.

The $1 a day casual rate gives customers up to 10MB of data - more than
enough for most casual users on their mobile devices. Customers who go over
that limit will be charged at $1 per megabyte and users who regularly need
more can take advantage of our suite of data plans.

Vodafone's GM of Products and Services, Kursten Shalfoon, says the new
casual rate will change the way customers use the internet on their mobile
devices.

"Over the past year we've increased network capacity, the handsets are
evolving rapidly and now we're able to bring mobile internet alive with
sharper prices."

To make sure customers can take advantage of the new rate, Vodafone's
network is optimising websites for viewing on customers' mobiles - a first
for New Zealand.

"There's nothing to install at the customer's end, and it works with all our
WAP-enabled mobiles. It means customers don't spend ages downloading a page
they can't read on their mobile device. Instead they'll get a page that's
optimised for their own personal device making the experience that much
better for all concerned."

The new pricing is simple and affordable, and now applies to almost all
internet data, including the Vodafone Live! portal. Sky Mobile TV and
Vodafone Compass will continue to be free of data usage costs.

"We have great content deals, and Vodafone Live will still bring the best of
the internet to Vodafone customers, but it means the customers can decide
what they'll want to look at and what they want to get involved with"

In the world of structured pricing (and Im taking a punt with what I'm about to say next).....
Perhaps the $1.00 a day plan would transpire into a 29.95 capped @ 300Mb optional add on also?

Actually, I should have read the thread (as no doubt this is excatley what it is)!
mind you, I could just be tryna get up my postings !

Cheers everyone and see you at a mobile phone shop near you when the rate plans come out for iphone.

Some of Australian data packs are a lot more attractive (eg $30 for 5GB a month) so hopefully we may see it over here (no holding breath) We just need more competition in NZ. I miss my capped plan for voice and data

Post below found on Macrumors. Seems the US iPhone 3G is being subsidised US$200 by AT&T who will make the $200 back over the term of the 2 year contract. So if the true cost of the device is a US$400, then we may expect to pay a little more here (ie, NZ$599 perhaps?) depending on how much Vodafone is subsidising it here. Not sure who controls the price in that arena...but we are in for an interesting ride.
