I have not had any notification so far in Christchurch. But I would be up for the $71 package if it came with a free modem, the existing deco they gave me is cable only.
I am only getting their monthly invoices.
Doesn't sound like this changeover was thought out or planned ahead particularly well 😕
I would have thought they would send a letter to everyone still on cable in the first instance, then publicly announce they're shutting down the network. This sounds to me like they're doing it the other way around, and in a very piecemeal manner, too.
Pure speculation but I’m wondering if its a combo of not catching the attention of Councils who will ask questions about the aerial network and also to not overload Chorus & Enable with UFB installations

The Deco is a router with an Ethernet interface and will work with any fibre connection via an ONT.
Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

As above user mentioned they changed the "user network interface" of HFC to be the same as UFB fibre (tagged with vlan 10) when they launched FibreX.
It's also interesting the main Christchurch cable head end is on site of the One NZ stadium... Enable being council owned need I come up with a theory for that one? 😁

I would speculate One wants to reach out by phone or by door knocking to every customer to attempt to retain them through the change over. Many HFC customer's will be very long term (sticky) customers which are especially valuable so worth the effort.
But staffing capacity would mean they would want to spread this out. Ideally keeping everything as low profile as they could until their call center had reached every impacted customer.
I disconnected from cable yesterday and got hit with the extra month penalty I drafted a email to Jason Paris at the way this shutdown has been handled and wonder if I get a reply. It seems one.nz are happy to sit on their complacency and watch competitors walk away with their customers.
I dare say that network is a large cost to them.
Is GPON fibre available in the areas there now? Maybe they could have handled the transition a bit better for existing customers. But all in all having it shut down and customers move to another provider is still probably better than keeping it running.

Thanks I thought that might be the case. I wish I had the box still but it had a sticker on it for Cable Only.
I wondered if I could just plug it into the fibre box.

Looks like Christchurch City Council took over what was the old TCL training room to the north (circa 2021. This appears to have been CERA-related.
The bottom parcel of land where the headend actually is remains owns by One NZ; however, I wouldn't be surprised if CCC wants this also.

Fortysouth, which acquired One NZ's mobile tower assets, received resource consent earlier in 2025 for a new tower on the One NZ Barbadoes Street site. It seems unlikely to me that they would further develop telecomms infrastructure on the site if it was going to be sold any time soon.
This is my concern if anyone attempts to search google looking for information all this:

Perhaps so but the information generally looks correct. There's isn't anything obviously wrong there. It's using a lot of hedging words (e.g. "some areas") which seem appropirate for something that is more or less certain to happen but the details of how it will happen is less clear.
The LFCs have piloted "Street in a Week" installs before, so not a process that needs to be reinvented from scratch, won't be too hard to hire people to do the work at the moment.

And they wonder why people say AI isn't ready to be let out into "the real world".
