@Apsattv: Vodafone could track the id of the gen1 units that have been stolen/mistakenly resold then bill the original owner, Then do the right thing and allow the new purchaser to have the box re-enabled rather than send it to the recycle bin!

I was given a Gen1 box by some people who found it in a flat they moved in to. I dropped it into the Wellington Vodafone Shop, hoping they might reuse it.

So I just picked up a VTV box as I'm looking at my options for getting rid of sky and I don't have an aeriel installed, only the sky dish.  PLugged in and registered fast but man who ever designed the interface needs shooting, it is shocking and cluttered!  I have a perosnal preference of turning the live stream off behind the menu which I can't do but the guide is too small with not enough channels or future timeslots being shown, the colours are bad and distracting!

Now, it works well and the content is loaded fast.. noticed some aliasing issues on thin items such as cables on a TV show on my 4K tv but otherwise ok.  Hidden all the sky channels so less clutter, but quite surprised by the reduced content available for recording.  I know why but I didn't realise it was that much!  Perhaps VTV need to seperate out Freeview content from Sky in their brochures so its accurate?

Our main viewing is Sky TV + Kodi on my Sony TV so dislike the need to switch inputs to an external box, tried sideloading the mobile APK and it won't work.... has a security error.... Would be quite easy I think for Vodafone to change that... I could probably tolerate the service then if I can use it on the TV directly!

I'll give this a go over the next week and see how it performs but I'm in mixed minds about this product and may not keep it beyond the my trial approach... if that is the case then I'll likely move towards a HDHomerun network server with the HDhomerun app for Android TV and do it the old fashioned way (or via Kodi again!).

What would be awesome from Vodafone would be some of their development direction, e.g. what is being considered for improvements and additions as that might sway me.

Chris

A few times I have reported odd behaviour regarding recordings of Newshub Live at 6. Now there is a new twist.
After watching a recording of this news most days since we got our Gen 2 about a year ago, ffor the past week or so we have been getting a message 'function not available' when trying to watch recordings. Tried doing something about it over the weekend - deleted the Series Record and recreated it. Same thing, so Deleted the Series to see if that would work better.

Tonight I found that the record option is no longer available for Newshub Live at 6. Another TV3 show we can't record. That 90% figure is looking even more dodgy than we have previously suggested!

I do not see any issue here for recording Newshub at 6pm. I’ve been able to set it to record the series with no issues.

If you haven't already try a power cycle of your Set top box.

All good here for me too.

SteveC: A few times I have reported odd behaviour regarding recordings of Newshub Live at 6 ...

All fixed now!
Thanks for your feedback @ZollyMonsta and @magnetonz .

Having tried all the usual stuff, including power cycle, I deleted the series record on my phone then tried to turn it on again, but there were no options under Live at 6 - just 'Similar to ..."
Inspired by @ZollyMonsta, next day I went back, and found Series Record this time, so I set it.
Tonight Newhub Live at 6 had recorded. I could play the recording, and even use fast-forward properly for the first time since we got VTV. Patience pays off!

As a matter of interest, although I've had the VTV unit for some months now, I just recently looked to see if I could access AcornTV (on subscription just like Prime Video), and of course there is no way to add the appropriate app.

Looking at VF's web site, they say -  "VodafoneTV comes with free-to-air channels and apps built into the menu screen with more apps being automatically added. Plus you have the option to add Sky."

Has there actually ever been '... more apps automatically added ...'??

Yes. I believe quite a few of those I mentioned have been added in the last 14 months.

Ivan ... thanks, I misread your reply saying "since" 😁

However, I was thinking more of the streaming services i.e. Disney, Acorn, even perhaps Microsoft.

That was last week. Tonight it is back to its old tricks. Hit fast forward at the end of sport, and it shot back to 20 minutes from the start of the news. Oh well ... everything else is working fine.
