Much like Vodafone TV (which was based on the same hardware as VF Italy), Vodafone parent group in UK/Europe would've also had a large part to play in the rollout of FibreX / DOCSIS 3.1 and they are fully out of the picture now. Huawei gone/banned means costs go up for any upgrade, doesn't even look like Nokia does cable anymore.

USA is a huge historical cable market, but fibre continues to rollout aggressively there - likely to be eventually phased out there too as upgrade costs become too prohibitive and most reasons for cable (content) continue to be independent of the tech.

Good while it ran.

Looks like One NZ are sneaking up prices of fibre and fixed wireless broadband now by bringing back the "$10/month discount for 12 months" for new sign-ups.

https://one.nz/broadband/internet-plans/

Fibre Everyday (500/100) which was $86/month when this thread started now $96/month.

I didn't think removing the $10 would last for long. It's not much of an incentive honestly.

I guess us HFC users will take a long, hard look at alternatives when the time comes?

Ok, so I have been officially notified by One that my HFC will cease 27 Jan. I’m at Waikanae Beach.

They have offered me a $30 monthly discount on Fibre Everday + Smart WiFi - $71 per month instead of $101.

Plus a $200 credit as well.

Both offers for 12 month term.

Glad I didn’t pull the pin earlier and waited for this sweetener.

That's quite an enticing value proposition. 500/100 Mbps fibre for what works out to be, what, $55/mo over 12 months?

I know a couple people on HFC that are pretty keen on some referrals to Quic after HFC is decommissioned, but even though I'd benefit from more referrals I think I'd probably encourage them to stay with One for a year at those prices. That's a really good deal!

So, Super-WiFi is essentially just a Deco router (they call it a modem)?

What happens to the Deco after 12 months .... presumably returned to them if, for example, user goes elsewhere ... or like a lot of tech they won't want it back?

"SmartWiFi" seems to be just a single Deco, while "SuperWiFi" seems to basically just be more mesh units. Looks like the $5/mo charge is only for the first year, too:

SmartWiFi can be added to your Fibre Broadband Plan for $5/month for the first 12 months, after which there will be no charge.

It doesn't seem to plainly say what happens with the units on cancellation though, beyond the early termination fees. Given the fees seem to match RRP, I'm assuming they're fully owned by the customer after the first 12 months...?

I wonder if other people are offered less for moving from cable to fibre if they would point the reps on the phone to this thread and say, "dafman got a better deal than you're offering me!?" 😁

I guess what I'm trying to say is, if dafman's offer is going to be the standard move-from-cable-to-fibre deal that VodafOne is going to offer, I hope it's consistently offered to everyone, not just those who happen to ask for it.

This passed me by until a thread on reddit yesterday.  Havn't heard anything here in Christchurch (Hoon Hay) yet.

Gutted, while it has had it's occasional moments, by and large I get a solid 900+Mbps down any time day or night.  Not looking forward to having to go through a fibre install rigmarole.

Have been on HFC here since, since, Paradise was the ISP.

@dafman ... did they mention anything about removing the 'old' HFC cabling?
