Being lazy and not reading all 13 page sof posts... but has Xnet made an official announcement about the lack of speed/bandwidth ?

Im looking at signing up with them but wont bother if they play the "theres nothing wrong" game although 80% of their userbase says there is....

TIA

There is a response on page 4 of this thread from "Maverick" who is one of the bossess at xnet. I definately would not recommend joining xnet at the moment. There was an email response also in this thread from the xnet helpdesk in relation to the international bandwidth stating that this was only a problem for about six hours a day, just happens to be the six hours when most people actually want to use the net.

I am in the process of looking elsewhere and I think a lot of others are too.

Yesterday I was at the parents-in-law who are signed up with Xnet and use VFX (line 1) and mynetfone (Line 2). I didn't notice anything wrong with their connection, but granted it was Sunday 5pm.

IIRC it was getting something like 4 Mbps to Auckland on the famed speedtest. And since their main usage is Trade Me and our own Exchange Server the performance was quite good.

Of course YMMV...

I don't think many people have had any problems with local traffic, generally my speeds have been good when doing a speedtest to Auckland as well. It's the speedtest to LA thats the problem and trying to stream a youtube video. Next time you are there have a go at that and see how you get on. What is YMMV by the way?

dont join, no one is happy with what they are doing.. now days beside very international speed, i am also been keep disconecting every here and there. and you know what the pain is??? you type a whole lot of email and click send, after couple on minute explorer giving you error for discounection, when you check the damn connection and you see your discounected.. you reboot and try to refresh the page you type all those emails and geuss what! all the typed text are gone and you got to start all over again.

I have been trying to keep it really cool here and not to use any bad words, but really upset since this has been happening to me few times.

also i wonder why would geekzone want to use worldxchange as their sponsor.. i read something about gathering and pizza is been paid by worldxchange?

I think this is out of line, suggesting that geekzone is in cohorts with wXc is a bit far fetched. Also most users are having issues only with international speeds. If you are getting regular disconnects you need to call the helpdesk as this sounds like a completely different problem which they may be able to fix.

WorldxChange is paying the pizza in our Geekzone Pizza evening in Wellington. Other companies were invited, but they don't think it is worth interacting with our users. All sponsors (including Google, 3Bit, Quaycorp, HP, Microsoft, Dell, ASUS) are clearly listed.

There's no relation between the problems some people see and our relation with a provider. If that would be the case, seeing that most of the people complain about their providers, we shouldn't even talk to them - which wouldn't help you much would it?

As Marmel says, out of line...

Before buying pizza, donating to charity, and similar activities (which are great when the service is too), they should invest in keeping customers happy. And by customers I don't mean those who will be happy as long as the service just works.

"And by customers I don't mean those who will be happy as long as the service just works."

Doesn't do that even. Can only get to New Zealand hosted websites during peek hours because international sites time out.

Companies in general don't focus in a single thing. There are streams of work, marketing, engineering. One thing doesn't exclude the other...

you guys are over exagerating the problem so much.

The speeds are slower than normal, but they are not *that* bad. I can stream youtube (and break) videos fine, so long as I give them 5 seconds to buffer at the start - wow, I had to wait a whole five seconds longer.

I was downloading the trial version of powerdvd 8 the other day, and it was only going at 30KB/s. Sure thats a little bit frustrating, but its still heaps better than dial up.
