I could be mistaken but if naked DSL is $69.95 and say you use 20gig of data that would make it $89.95....

Telecom offer that phone plan plus 20 gigs for $99?

Id pay the 10 bucks extra hehe...

telecom offers a total home plan with phone line and 10GB of data for $99 - but contract of 12 months with gree modem/router - where did u see the deal for 20GB?

I suggest u guys leave the Torrent plan, and go back to the regular Pay per meg. I did that yesterday, but wasn`t sure when it was gonna come into effect. So I still did my scheduled downloads at night, thinking it would still be in the Torrent plan. Woke up, had a look and surprise, surprise, all my Usenet downloads are done, plus a lot of my torrents. I downloaded about 8 GB last night, whereas on the plan that was designed for night-time downloading, I was getting about 200 MB per night. Just leave and pay for your downloads, 1 dollar per GB is still not a bad deal.

If honest work and justice are not enough - we'll get a lawyer.

I'm on the torrent plan myself... Over the labour day weekend, it was horrible (as on my previous posts here).

BUT.. From tuesday onwards, just as I was contemplating a shift over to pay-per-meg, it definitely improved. I could go on gmail, facebook, those basic websites... A bit slow, but use-able anyway. Torrents (about 1Gb in total) started overnight finished in the morning...

So for now, it's acceptable, and definitely a big improvement over the weekend.

I am on the torrent plan and things have gotten worse since I first signed up but what do you expect. Everyone wants something for free and having 75GB a month is going to attract alot of customers which is what xnet wants (as they are a company that wants to make money the last time I checked.)

Sure I can't download the 75GB a month like I could a couple of months ago but I can still download approx 30GB which I don't have to pay a cent for.

Everyone needs to stop whinning about how slow it is and get over it you are getting free data no matter how much you download.

In New Zealand people have been crying about getting free data for years and it is finally here in away so stop complaining. If you want to play games move to a different ISP/Plan its not called the GAMING PLAN so what did you all think was going to happen??

If you are getting crap torrent speeds maybe go to another site which which has better seeds. You may also want to grab the torrent file before 12.

It seems obvious to me that the torrent plan is for torrents only.

Perhaps they changed something, but also keep in mind a number of people have stated here they were scheduled to leave XNet during this week.

But if you do switch to the normal plan, please oh please keep on scheduling your downloads for off-peak time so that we do not recycle the whole issue we had for probably most of this year. And don't all go for 12 - 8 am, rather pick something random (but still off-peak). Perhaps set-up your downloads to pause if it drops below a reasonable speed?

People are paying for a service Xnet are not providing. Therefore, they have the right to complain.

You state that you 'can still download 30GB'. Good for you. You don't really have much to complain about. In the last couple of weeks, I'm managing to get around 100MB over an 8 hour period. That equates to 3GB a month. Not quite the potential FREE 75GB I'm entitled to. I say entitled to as I'm paying higher rates during peak hours for the priviledge of the free downloads.

Like others here, I'm now downloading during peak hours so I can get the stuff, and consequently my bill is about $15 more than last month, and like others, it looks like I'll be switching plans.

Lucky - mine promises to be over a $100 more (1), and future bills will likely be around $50 more than I paid on the Torrent plan. That SUCKS given I'd have HAPPILY paid up to 50¢ per GB during off-peak. Even if Xnet wises up and introduces sane off-peak pricing to deter people not setting bandwidth limits in P2P, I STILL won't be staying with them. Just as soon as someone else offers me a naked DSL plan with cheap off-peak rates that ACTUALLY WORKS I'm outta here!

(1) Firstly - I had to use time and a half rates before I switched plans in order to get the bare minimum downloaded; secondly - once I'd switched I went a little crazy after a month of not being able to download what I wanted - I had HEAPS to catch up on, like large podcasts that whose download had NEVER successfully completed during off-peak hours under the Torrent plan. Gah! I wish everything was hosted on servers supporting resume! :-(

I wish people would stop trotting out this rubbish. It's just been clearly proven that 75GB uncharged for between the hours of midnight to 8am, even on a subset of the Xnet customer base brought the system to it's knees. Xnet are entitled to do pretty muwhatever they need to do to restore sane network usage and performance.

I'm aftraid they are entitled to manage their customers' usage FAR more than you are 'entitled' to your free 75GB.

And that line about being entitled to it because of the higher rates you pay during the rest of the day? Rubbish. Even at $1.50/GB, they are among the very cheapest on the market - plus add to that the fact that the serious torrenters don't want to use ANY real traffic (a few gig for browsing mostly) outside of their "free" time, and it's clear that the higher per GB charge does nothing to contribute to the free usage.

You get what you pay for - and that's currently what the torrent users are experiencing.

I presume people aren't annoyed because they are getting the service they pay for - I presume that are annoyed because they are NOT getting a VASTLY better service than they are paying for.

As many people have found - switch off the torrent plan and things get a whole lot better.

Perhaps after the compulsory minimum period you signed up to the torrent plan for expires, you can switch back to the Pay Per Gig plan yourself? How long ago did you join and how long till you're allowed to switch plans?

Full speed during day and between 1am-7am great speed and free data. You beauty.

I wonder if it's because I switched from XNet to Slingshot???

Ummmmm no they are not!

I've been trying to call XNet all afternoon to cancel my account. From 1:30pm-4pm they had a answerphone message saying "Cannot answer phone due to evacuation".

Finally I got through at 4pm. 31 minutes later still no answer.

Left a message.

Useless.

Guys just ignore Talkiet, he`s so one-eyed it`s not funny. He says the Torrent plan brought the system to its knees. He keeps forgetting the fact that the Torrent plan was created because the system was already brought to its knees. Extremely poor international speeds during peak times. The only reason was Xnet`s pathetic contention ratios compared to decent ISP`s. The torrent plan was introduced, and things got much better. But now thanks to a couple of night-owls like Talkiet, all the customers of the Torrent plan have been screwed over with this pooling rubbish. I suggest everyone going back to the regular plan and do our heavy downloading at peak times, just for the way we were treated.

My thoughts exactly, no point in being polite (main reason I chose the torrent plan other than the 'free' data) anymore and trying not to step on peak time users toes.
Also means my main box no longer needs to be on 18 hours a day, so its actually going to save me about $20~$25 in power a month.
