I was just around at my mates place and their cable went out just before 7pm and came back on just after 730pm, it's been happening since Monday apparently at around the same time. They live on Evans Bay Parade. So when I go in tomorrow I'll make a few calls and see if I can get some answers for you all.

An update... This morning I called TCL because my connection was down. After being informed there was an outage in this area last night I was asked to power cycle the modem for 60 seconds.

The connection came back and it worked ok for another hour before two mini-outages of 5 minutes each. Since then the service was restored and no more outages - I even managed to download Windows Vista RTM from MSDN in under 3 hours (3.5GB file) without interruptions.

I was told that a change in infrastructure is coming, and for what I've heard it's going to impress...

Any ideas on what this change is?

Less outages... that would be impressive

Hi guys, found this site a month or so ago, but this is my first post.

I'm in Johnsonville, and I've also been experiencing the mini-outages since around the 16th, everyday without fail sometimes multiple times in a row then fine for an hour then again, some days better than others, nights/early mornings are the worst, my firewall recorded outages all night the other night every 30mins/60mins.

Now tonight I have no cable at all, it went down around 8pm while I was at work, I got home at midnight and it was out still, my brother said he rang and they explained it was a power outage on the kapiti coast!?!? don't they have backup power? I found this rather strange so rang again, and was told there was a problem, don't know whats wrong or when it will be fixed was all the information I could get! So I hooked up a quick dialup modem and checked their status page, and as per usual "No Known Problems".

It is now 3am, 7 hours since my cable went down, and still no service :(
And oh yes, I have recycled/left modem off for 10 minutes, continually recycling etc. No luck.
So much for my online study tonight, dialup is so painful for webdesign work.

Will update wen it comes back up.

Zar, welcome to Geekzone. I live in Johnsonville and the cable service went down last night at 8:46pm. It's now 6:15am and the service is still not restored: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/1753

I just got the most hilarious email from TCL:

Dear Customer

We are making changes to our cable network in the Christchurch region.

To carry out the required work, we must impose a brief outage of your cable modem service.

The outage will occur at the following time:

The morning of Tuesday the 21th of November 2006  between 00.01am and 6am.

The actual impact on your individual service will be for approximately 15mins  within this time. Normal service will resume by 6am.

We apologise for this disruption to service and any inconvenience this may cause you.

If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact us on 0800 467 272.

NOTE: You may need to turn your modem off and on again at the wall to re-establish connection after the outage.

The TelstraClear Team

First of all, I don't live in Christchurch.  Secondly, I received the email today - a day AFTER the scheduled outage....

And no word about 11 hours outage from 8:46pm through 7am, starting the evening this e-mail refers to...

I still get mini outages and have not called the call centre about them since all they will say is reset the modem or whatever. In fact I have to reset my router usually.

But I have called about poor TV services (this is easier to explain) and before even a truck roll, the CSR said to compensate me for my inconvenience, she would put 2 PPV movies on my account free for the next 6 months!  Marginally useful since I normally rent DVD's and PPV movies don't have Dolby Digital sound but still it's something.

Now an equivalent compensation for internet service might be 10G a month extra for 6 months :-)
