If we could I'd love to get a sure signal unit and run it through our non-corporate-firewalled connection we have in our office just to get a 3G signal here

Def agree would love to see it opened up to other ISPs, or even go as far as VF making agreements with other ISPs to zero-rate sure signal traffic (pipe dream I'm guessing)

cisconz: I did test using a VSS via a VPN and it worked, albeit it took ages to auth as the latency kept on changing.

Would this work better if the vpn server was on a vodafone ufb connection 50/100. what kind of vpn, pptp, openvpn etc... ?

Can I put in my "it would be nice" bid too please!

Our family has 5 phones and all have unreliable VF coverage at home (Pukete, Hamilton). 0 to 1 bar signal strength, frequent drop-outs etc etc.
If we get a connection, it hops between cellsites, as we move about the house but never reliable.

Visitors have the same problem. We are on-call from Waikato Hospital for emergencies and they usually have to call us by landline to reach us reliably.

We do have a Telecom PrePay XT SIM and with that we get 4-5 bars of signal strength in the same phones.

We love Vodafone, have been with them since the BellSouth days. Good plans, Data Angel Overseas -excellent!. Family plan etc etc.

But we also love our Telecom 500GB home Broadpband plan (VF has nothing to touch that).

If we could just be allowed to have a SureSignal femtocell unit attached to our Telecom BB, all our problems would be solved (unless VF feels the urge to install a new cell tower down our street).

Otherwise when my wife and I drop off our current 24-month on-account plans, all the family will have to switch to Telecom which we know has reliable coverage here.

How about a fair go? We are happy to accept all the hooks given as the reason SureSignal "has" to be on the VF BB network...

Please!

OK so, almost ready to change to telecom, but gosh their roaming rates are diabolical, 10 times the cost of data in Europe compared to Vodafone.

Still awful reception of Vodafone mobile/3G in our home suburb, often unusable inside.

So how about this:

We currently have two Telecom phone lines (actually one phone with Telecom Broadband ADSL, and the other a Telecom line used just for fax).
I cannot tell from the VF T&C if this would work but..

What if I changed our (virtually unused) fax line over to Vodafone and had, say, a 30GB VF broadband+phone plan, but still kept the other line for Telecom phone and Broadband. Therefore I would have two ADSL broadband connections, Telecom on one and Vodafone on the other.

Would I then be able to get a Sure Signal femtocell device connected specifically to the VF phone/data line and keep using the Telecom line for calls/BB as we do now?

I could split off the Vodafone Broadband (and use it for Sure Signal to fix the lousy Vodafone mobile coverage in this area) and directly connect the phone line to the fax machine, hopefully even porting the old TC number....

Does anybody know if there would be any Vodafone restrictions on doing this? Hopefully I can have the best of both worlds!

As long as you have a Vodafone NZ xDSL connection and the Sure Signal unit connected to that connection it will work fine

OK, done that.

We now have the 500GB Telecom broadband coming in on one (TC) line and the smallest Vodafone Broadband plan on the other (VF) phone line with SureSignal femtocell device attached. All Vodafone reception problems at home now basically solved. Plus we also now have a broadband backup!

Well i suppose given its a year port waiting area and only 10 houses can get DSL there, You need to go 5KM up the road to get signal..
