If you look at the Mobile offers at the moment... you have:

You Choose offered by Vodafone

Flexi Mytime/Anytime offered by Telecom

Both with minimum terms. One can assume that both are intended in locking a customer in for when number portability comes into affect. With things like local loop unbundling, number portability, and naked DSL (which may take some time before it is offered)... It wouldn't really surprise me if they* tried to do the same thing with broadband, calling promotions, and landlines.

* By the word they, I mean internet providers, toll providers, landline providers, mobile providers etc.

Apples with apples please, Telecom and ihug land lines require only one month's notice to cancel or switch.

Anyway I'm just pointing out that the comments so far have been "yay this is great and you don't have to pay any extra" without pointing out the obvious catch.

I can cancel my phone line and internet with a month's notice and that's the way it'll stay until I see what's on offer in Q3 2007.

Please provide a quote from my post where I said all landlines are on minimum contracts. I mearly said that it wouldn't surprise me if the practice started.

I haven't heard anyone complain or not take up the offer because of the contract term - livinh in Auck or ChCH you would save that 10x over with the savings you make, I love it I call grandparents/cousins/friends in ashburton/darfield/hanmer springs all the time its already saved me half of the termination fee.
