Unless its your wiring causing a slight drop in line rate, you won't beat 16 megabit sync. That's as good or better than most without going to to fibre or VDSL2.
16 Megabit is definitely nothing to complain about, when my ADSL2+ modem synced at that speed i could get a 1.5MB/s on some downloads, sometimes more.

Saying that, anecdotally anyone i know who's on the central auckland exchange has always got sub par download speeds compared to their sync rate. But this doesn't count for anything.

I agree, 16Mbits is good, but the Vodafone guy told me many customers can reach 30Mbits frequently, that is why I am asking.

No worries...

if you changed ISP, got your wiring fixed/looked at and upgraded to a VDSL2 plan you might see 30Mbits. Might. I say change ISP because Vodafone don't offer VDSL2 at this stage.

Ok, got it.

This is new for me because in Brazil the ISP's sell bandwidth/speed (and unlimited data transfer) and here they sell data transfer. So I never had to think about ADSL/ADSL2+/VDSL.

The problem about the "brazilian model" is they only guarantee 10% of the hired bandwidth, and that means the customer is always in disadvantage.

If you pay for a 35Mbits plan and you have 3.5Mbits speed, you cannot complain.

Cheers.

Over here for DSL services, it's simply best effort based on what the technology can provide you, they don't artificially limit it in the majority of cases. Hence why you'd have to upgrade to a VDSL2 or fibre service to see faster than what you have.

For Fibre, which is steadily rolling out across the country, you pay for speed and data transfer, depending on plan.

Right, I'm looking forward to have fiber available, depending on the price, of course. I think Auckland CBD will have it soon, that is enough for me :)

Do you have any idea about the prices?

The product you're looking for is "UFB". SNAP, Orcon, Slingshot, Telecom etc all do UFB. So check their websites for UFB pricing.
