Hmm something strange is going on here, looks like maybe that apartment building is possibly being served by it's own ASAM which isn't shown on the Chorus maps.

I'm pretty sure that the higher level vodafone techs can change the profile on the ISAM port. It might have been changed because of instability on the line or might not have been changed for some reason. Your attenuation looks brill.

The fact that you are sync'd at 7600Kb/s is about the limit of ADSL 1. We don't get much more then 80Kb more when we go across the port with a Dynatel.

You know how much an ASAM is worth right???? It would need a fiber or a selection of 2MB circuits to run it to begin with.

ATM Subscriber Access Multiplexer. I imagine they're Alcatel 7300 series, which I haven't personally touched, so will leave it to those more familiar to give any further detail.

More INFO

AT/DF cabinet serves the other side of the street and most likely has no pairs running to that address

This isn't a simple problem. It definitely doesn't appear your building is served by that cabinet, so it isn't in a VDSL2 area. It does however appear to be connected to an ASAM however that is UBA ADSL1 only in the general vicinity as the attenuation is too low to be served from the exchange.

Based on the attenuation you have (very very low), it does look like a local device in your building.

Yep and it looks like it only supports ADSL1 but not 100% confirmed yet

I find that hard to believe this dude is in downtown Auckland and can only get adsl1 ? I mean come on i live in Belfast Christchurch on the out skirts of Christchurch and i have vdsl2 .But honestly Chorus should get their ish sorted their broadband network is like a rats nest and maze..... I mean there is ppl who live 20 feet from someone who has vdsl yet the person across the street cant get it.....

And then we have a whole street who has it but the poor sod or the two poor sods just at the end of the street cant get adsl2 or vdsl2......

even worse there are streets out there were the right half of the street gets fast broadband and the poor geezers in the middle get jack lol 10 mb zone for two house then everyone to the left of them have 20 mb zone.

Then this guy's story well sir but the adsl2 capable cabinet only serves the other side of your street and well (cough) you're to far from the exchange and cabinet to get adsl2.

That is appalling for Downtown Auckland in 2013 and why is it so hard to make sure whole streets can get good internet ? Last time i checked NZ was two small islands which you can get from top to bottom of nz in 2 days. How come all of this mess is happening ? You got Country's 10 times larger with 3 to 10 major city's bigger than Auckland who have their Network Structure sorted better....Why us it's not like the land mass of our small tiny island country is that hard to cover ? I mean nz is about as small as the state of California maybe a bit of Oregon ?

I feel for you dude not being able to get your fast internet..... I hope things work out for you.

Just looking at the image of the sunc speed... It looks like its attached to something more then an ASAM. But that could be the router on crack...

7MBit is decent on comparison to some I have seen.

I'm in a course at mo. I can't look up tracings. But hopefully the vodafone guy who posted above can look at tracings and compare to the cabinet.

Please also remember the cable was laid a long time before broadband was ever thought of. But most people don't take that into consideration.....

Population density and economic viability plays a big role. NZ is about 65% the land area of California, with only 12% of the population count. It's a lot more viable to provision $250k worth of cabling and equipment to service an expected 2000 customers, than 200, in the same area, for example.

That said, in this particular instance, it seems more like at some point a decision was made that his building or block justified it's own ASAM, but that it wasn't provisioned for (or hasn't been upgraded to support) newer DSL standards like ADSL2 and VDSL. Perhaps an upgrade oversight, particularly if it is building-specific?

My understanding is Telecom put some kit in a handful of newer developments around the same time they were deploying the Coklin's. Both were great ideas at the time, but have now turned into a huge hangover.

Well when you put it that way it makes a bit more sense.... but these little patches in the network where a few poor unfortunate ppl miss out on some good internet yet everyone surrounding them have great speeds is not good..... I just think the network could be done a little better because you have to agree the chorus network map looks like someone with a Mortar dropped a bunch of 20 Mb mortar shells in random spots and didn't quite think it through. Im someone who likes things to be symmetrical or tidy ,when i look at the chrous map it's an OCD persons nightmare lol no i don't have ocd ?
