And what's with the modem being sent by courier to our house rather than the tech bringing it.
I am sure I am not the only one that works and has to take time out of work to go sign for it at the depo, as they won't leave it at your door.

And one last thing.

If you have sky tv package, you are told by VF to call sky to move to them, as the package is not offered with Fibre.

Only problem is, sky said VF need to contact them, not me.

This is pretty much standard procedure for every ISP whether it's a XDSL or UFB install. The tech works for Chorus (or sub contractor) and has no relationship at all with the ISP.

The option of having Chorus carry router stock for installs is available to ISP's for xDSL and UFB and from memory is around $150 per install. This obviously requires a lot of additional work including the technician having to liaise with the ISP before each install to link the MAC address or serial number of the device with the customer since most use this for provisioning these days.

yeah, makes more sense to get it sent to work, which i did the second time, the courier thing should be pointed out at time or order maybe so it can be sent to a singable address? mind you, courier post do a redirect service so meh it all good?

got a call at about 8:45am that they were leaving the depot.
showed up at about 9am.

Chorus is doing the install, 2 guys are here.
Installing an overhead line, about 200 mtrs to the house (including from pole to pole on the road, my house is about 60mtrs back from the road)
fibre cable is being installed, so no need to blow through a line (which he felt was easier anyway), i dont know why they do it one way or another?
ETP installed outside where i wanted it, run in through the roof to my preferred location for the ONT.
once they confirm it is working the old copper is going to be removed.

the install is just about done so it took about 5 hours. (or maybe im jinxing it by typing this ?!)

My install was completed today as well. About 6 hours work and a nice tidy job.
Seems good so far.

Not sure if this is exactly the right place to post this comment, but I too have just had a new fibre install, and thought I might have some useful info that I found difficult to obtain from Vodafone.
Vodafone is my service provider, and install process was similar to what you experienced. They actually created a network loop by connecting the vodafone station to the home switch with 2 cables, but once that was resolved, all was well.
Anyway, I wanted to use a different router from the vodafone supplied router, but couldn't find anyone at vodafone who could tell me required wan settings.
So, it turns out that (when connecting to Vodafone) the router should be configured to use DHCP, and should tag packets with vlan 10.

Good to know.
I am going to try moving the router around to improve the wireless signal, but I may have to consider replacing it.

Thanks for those. Kind of interesting why they're still listing some of their customers under "Wave Internet Services". I assume the ping would be lower on an ethernet connection? Other than the ping those looks like some solid results.

Yup they did. A bit odd your ping is 5ms~ wonder if this'll improve over time (after all it is a "trial").
