Mustve been my lucky day when I rung them a few weeks back. Spoke to the right person, got moved to the email plan and even got an email to confirm. All my ihug addresses still work. I just assumed it was for 5 addresses as per the dialup plan. Hope its not per address.

Treat it as a sign that you shouldn't use ISP provided email and migrate to something ISP independent!

I got the email address in 1995 long before much existed and when I wanted to leave Compuserve costing $200plus a month for web access. So no, dont want to give it up.

I don't mean instantly stop using it, but it's a wake up call to transition off using it over time.

There is no guarantee Vodafone will keep the ihug domain going forever or continue to provider a cheap email only plan. What happens when some day they decide it's not worth the cost to run any more?

I highly recommend registering your own nz domain name (around $20/year ish) then you can use any email provider you want (google apps, office 365, outlook.com, host your own... whatever). You have total control over your own email destiny.

Most platforms have a mail fetcher feature that which will poll your old address and import the mail into your new main inbox while you update your subscriptions, mailing lists and tell your friends your new address.

It just makes sense, you only need a smidge of tech savy to set it up.

Umm, read above. I was on the net in the 90s and actually using computers (if we can call them that) in the late 70s. I think my tech savy is fine.

I would like to keep addresses I have had a long time and for Vodafone to clarify a change even their own staff are giving out differing information on. Nothing to do with if i do have (I do) or should have other non isp based addys. Would rather keep this on topic and hope someone from voda will clarify.

Vodafone really screwed up mums change to using a mail only from having a get3 account. They dropped the forwarding that was in place and provided the most shocking of customer service when she called to ask why the email wasn't coming thru any more.

I remember seeing that confirmed as well, looks like it has been back edited out.

Pity really, that would have been the ideal replacement for the Get3 account (that was only used for maintaining email addresses) instead of the full dial-up account (that will still only get used for maintaining email addresses).
