Apropos coverage map John. I checked out Napier (where I live), and the 4G coverage seems strange to me. Instead of covering downtown, its covering Westshore, the airport and the harbour.

Not that I am complaining, I am in the coverage area, just seemed a bit odd.

4G coverage foot print is expanding so rapid I would not worry about it

So when does it hit Bombay :-)

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I love my 4G...I really notice the difference.

Just make sure if you tether your laptop to your phone on 4G it doesnt do anything silly like sync with exchange server....that eats data caps pretty quick!!!

4G for prepay is a natural progression.

In fact the other thing was I saw on twitter people in Kaitaia, Bay of Islands and Kinloch saying they have 4G too...rapid expansion!

KevinL: I wonder if Vodafone will extend the offering to grandfathered plans...

Nope

Edit: Sorry this reply sounded bit short but was standing on the side of Mt Eden at the time freezing my backside off

What postpay plan are you on? DM me your mobile number and I can take a look

edit: The plan you are on can't have access to the 4G network

Hypothetical question

If one has a prepay freebies sim pack that has not been activated is there anyway to convert to prepay smart? Will it have $20 if so can one buy a prepay smart plan?

It's Freebees

You can change to Prepay Smart anytime the option is online and in the mobile app,

Select the option ' Change plan ' Yes it will keep the same Prepay Balance but are you sure it comes with $20 when activated?

If you change it online it will cost you $5, give a call to 777 before you activate it and they should switch it free of charge. You would how ever use $19 of the $20 to buy the smart19 pack

Vodafone don't seem to advertise all  of the data addons available which make particularly the bring your own smart phone plan offerings competitive with some of the old Grandfathered plans with 3GB of Data. I know I found out abou them in store. I still can't see anything on there website.

Johnr - I have read this fact several times on Geekzone, and I just don't get it.  Surely a customers plan (which is just a billing activity based on rated usage) is separate from the network level stuff?  How can a plan dictate what network capabilities a customer can have?

Or is it more to do with the provisioning side, i.e. customers on grandfathered plans cannot be on 4G because the systems are not set up for it?
